Neeraj Chopra clinches 26th consecutive top-two finish with edge-of-the-seat last throw in Zurich Diamond League - Watch

India’s golden boy of athletics, Neeraj Chopra, once again proved why he is one of the most consistent performers in world sport. At the 2025 Diamond League Final in Zurich, the 27-year-old Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist secured his 26th consecutive top-two finish, despite a challenging evening that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

A Thriller Till the Very End

For much of the evening, it seemed like Neeraj might miss out on his remarkable streak. He started with a solid 84.35m throw, followed by 82.00m in his second attempt. But a series of three fouls put him under pressure, dropping him to third place behind Germany’s Julian Weber and Trinidad & Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott.

With everything on the line in his final attempt, Neeraj delivered when it mattered the most. His 85.01m throw pushed him to second place, ensuring his incredible streak of top-two finishes remained intact.

Julian Weber Steals the Show

While Neeraj battled consistency, Julian Weber was unstoppable. The German star opened with a massive 91.37m throw, and then bettered it with a 91.51m effort the season’s best throw in 2025. Although he fouled in his third attempt, Weber continued his dominance with throws of 83.66m, 86.45m, and 88.66m, finishing comfortably at the top.

The Battle for the Podium

The fight for the second spot was just as intense. Keshorn Walcott had looked set for silver with his 84.95m opener, but Neeraj’s final throw edged him out. Walcott eventually had to settle for third place with additional attempts of 79.91m, 81.78m, 77.00m, and 78.30m.

Other competitors included:

  • Anderson Peters (Grenada) – Fourth with a best of 82.06m.

  • Julius Yego (Kenya) – Fifth with 82.01m.

  • Andrian Mardare (Moldova) – Sixth with 81.81m.

  • Simon Wieland (Switzerland) – Seventh with 81.29m.

Neeraj’s Consistency Continues

Though he couldn’t breach the 90m mark this time, Neeraj’s 26th straight top-two finish underlines his exceptional consistency and mental toughness in pressure situations. Fans around the world once again witnessed the grit of an athlete who refuses to back down, regardless of the circumstances.

As the athletics season progresses, all eyes will remain on Neeraj Chopra India’s javelin king who continues to inspire millions with his performances on the global stage.
