Hapag-Lloyd senior delegation meets SLPA leadership to strengthen strategic cooperation

In a significant move to reinforce maritime partnerships and enhance operational efficiency, a senior delegation from Hapag-Lloyd recently visited the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). The visit aimed to strengthen longstanding ties while exploring new avenues for collaboration in port operations and capacity development.

The Hapag-Lloyd delegation included Mr. Christiaan Goeman Borgesius, Senior Director – RME Operations; Mr. Jubil Thankachan, Director of Marine Operations – RME Operations; and Mr. Lloyd De Villers, Director of Procurement. They were accompanied by representatives from Hapag-Lloyd’s local agency, ensuring a comprehensive discussion on both strategic and operational fronts.

On the SLPA side, the meeting welcomed Chairman Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe (Rtd), Vice Chairman Eng. Herath M. P. Jayawardhana, Managing Director Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra, Director of Marketing & Business Development Mr. U. Kumara, and Acting Director of Operations Mr. Pradeep Perera.

The discussions focused on ongoing developments across Sri Lankan ports, emphasizing operational enhancements, capacity expansion, and improving efficiency. The Hapag-Lloyd team commended the SLPA for its relentless efforts in modernising port infrastructure and underlined the importance of maintaining a strong and reliable partnership in the region.

Both parties expressed optimism about future cooperation, identifying potential areas for joint initiatives aimed at ensuring smooth, efficient, and future-ready port operations. This meeting not only reaffirmed the robust partnership between Hapag-Lloyd and SLPA but also set the stage for continued strategic collaboration that supports the growth of Sri Lanka’s maritime sector.

With this collaboration, stakeholders look forward to a new era of operational excellence and enhanced service reliability, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a key player in regional and global shipping networks.
