PM Modi inaugurates two new industrial parks in Andhra Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated two significant greenfield industrial parks at Kopparthy and Orvakal in Andhra Pradesh, signaling a major boost to India’s industrial landscape. With a combined investment of ₹4,920 crore, these parks are set to accelerate the state’s emergence as a key manufacturing hub in southern India.

India’s Growing Industrial Momentum

Addressing the inauguration, PM Modi highlighted India’s expanding industrial capabilities and the nation’s vision of achieving “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. “The world today sees India as the new manufacturing powerhouse of the 21st century,” he remarked, underlining Andhra Pradesh’s strategic role in advancing self-reliance and industrial growth.

Orvakal Industrial Area: A Self-Sustaining Township

The Orvakal Industrial Area (OIA), spread across 2,621 acres in Kurnool district, is designed as an integrated, self-sustaining industrial township. Combining industrial, residential, commercial, and social infrastructure, the OIA is poised to become a thriving ecosystem for diverse sectors including:

  • Automobile components

  • Renewable energy

  • Aerospace and defence

  • Electrical and electronics

  • Textiles and apparel

  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Gems and jewellery

With an investment potential of around ₹12,000 crore, the park is expected to generate substantial economic activity and employment opportunities.

Kopparthy Industrial Area: Strategic Logistics Advantage

The Kopparthy Industrial Area, located in Kadapa district under the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), spans 2,595 acres and is being developed at a cost of ₹2,136 crore. Its strategic location near NH-40, NH-716, Kadapa Airport, and ports such as Krishnapatnam and Chennai, provides a strong logistical advantage. This makes Kopparthy a key maritime trade and export gateway for the region.

Part of a Larger National Vision

Both industrial parks are part of 12 new greenfield industrial cities approved under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) last year. Developed jointly by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), these hubs are expected to attract over ₹21,000 crore in additional investment and create around 1 lakh direct jobs.

The NICDP, implemented by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), aims to build smart, sustainable industrial cities with world-class infrastructure, enhancing manufacturing’s contribution to India’s GDP.

India’s Growing Network of Smart Industrial Cities

With the addition of these parks, India will soon have 20 smart industrial cities. Currently, four are operational:

  • Dholera (Gujarat)

  • Shendra-Bidkin (Maharashtra)

  • Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh)

  • Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh)

Several others are under construction in strategic locations like Khurpia, Rajpura, Agra, Prayagraj, Gaya, Dighi Port, Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar, Zaheerabad, and Palakkad. These cities are aligned along key industrial corridors such as Amritsar–Kolkata, Delhi–Mumbai, Vizag–Chennai, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, Hyderabad–Nagpur, and Chennai–Bengaluru, reinforcing India’s vision of becoming a global manufacturing and logistics powerhouse.

Conclusion

The inauguration of the Orvakal and Kopparthy industrial parks marks a pivotal step in India’s industrial journey. These projects not only strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s manufacturing landscape but also contribute to the nationwide mission of smart, sustainable, and globally competitive industrial cities. As India continues its march toward Viksit Bharat, these initiatives highlight the country’s unwavering commitment to growth, innovation, and employment generation.
