DP World Launches New EXIM Rail Service Between Powarkheda and Nhava Sheva

Introduction
DP World has strengthened India’s logistics connectivity with the launch of a new twice-weekly EXIM rail service connecting Powarkheda in Madhya Pradesh to the Nhava Sheva container terminal in Mumbai. The service is designed to improve the state’s access to both international and domestic markets, offering faster, cleaner, and more reliable cargo movement.

Enhanced Connectivity for Central India
The new service operates from DP World’s Multimodal Logistics Hub at Powarkheda, a facility equipped with warehouses, an inland container yard, cold storage, agri-processing units, and a dedicated rail area for direct cargo handling. This integrated setup allows industries across Madhya Pradesh to benefit from seamless logistics support without relying heavily on road transport.

Faster Transit and Lower Emissions
According to Adhendru Jain, Vice President, Rail and Inland Terminals, DP World Subcontinent, the Powarkheda hub significantly reduces cargo transit time and can cut emissions by nearly 70% compared to road movement. With a three-day transit window from key industrial clusters such as Mandideep, Bhopal, Itarsi, and Raisen to Nhava Sheva, the service promises both speed and sustainability.

Benefits for Industries
Sectors including agri-processing, chemicals, food, steel, textiles, and cement are expected to gain from improved reliability, bonded warehousing, and multimodal support. The facility currently handles over 1,400 TEUs per month, with room to scale further as demand from regional industries increases.

Strengthening DP World’s National Network
This new connection expands DP World’s growing inland network, which now includes more than 50 rail routes and a fleet of over 100 owned container rakes. The company continues to focus on building integrated logistics solutions that connect manufacturing hubs with India’s major ports, boosting trade efficiency and supply chain resilience.

Conclusion
The launch of the Powarkheda–Nhava Sheva EXIM rail service marks another milestone in India’s logistics evolution, offering faster transit, reduced carbon footprint, and enhanced global market access for industries in Madhya Pradesh. With DP World’s continued investment in multimodal infrastructure, the future of cargo movement in central India looks more connected and competitive than ever.
