Deendayal Port Authority Signs ₹1.8 Lakh Crore MoUs to Develop Kandla as Global Green Fuel Hub

Deendayal Port Authority Signs ₹1.8 Lakh Crore MoUs to Develop Kandla as Global Green Fuel Hub

In a landmark move towards maritime decarbonisation, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has inked Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹1.8 lakh crore with leading industry and technology partners to transform Kandla Port into a global green fuel hub. The agreements were signed during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, setting a new benchmark for India’s commitment to sustainable maritime growth.

A Major Push Towards Green Energy Transition
This strategic initiative marks one of India’s largest investments in the green fuel sector. Under these MoUs, DPA aims to develop production facilities for green methanol, green hydrogen, and green ammonia   all key components in the transition towards cleaner energy for maritime and industrial use. These facilities will help reduce the carbon footprint of shipping operations and accelerate India’s progress toward its net-zero emission goals.

Creating a Global Green Fuel Ecosystem
DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh highlighted that the partnerships will pave the way for a complete green molecule ecosystem at Kandla. “We have signed MoUs with multiple technology partners and investors to create a comprehensive ecosystem for green molecules at Kandla,” he said. The port will also house a state-of-the-art bunkering terminal to supply low- and zero-carbon fuels to vessels navigating international shipping routes, making Kandla a critical node in the global green maritime network.

Strategic Impact on India’s Maritime Future
By integrating advanced technologies and sustainable fuel infrastructure, the DPA’s initiative will not only enhance Kandla’s global competitiveness but also position India as a frontrunner in green port innovation. The project aligns with the government’s Maritime India Vision 2030, which emphasizes the adoption of renewable energy, decarbonisation, and sustainable port-led development.

A Step Towards a Cleaner Maritime Economy
With this ambitious plan, the Deendayal Port Authority has taken a decisive step in shaping a cleaner, greener, and more resilient maritime future. Once completed, the Kandla green fuel hub is expected to significantly contribute to reducing emissions from global shipping, promote green trade corridors, and attract further investments in renewable technologies.
