BJP trying to take political mileage of ‘Op Sindoor”: NC

Jammu, May 23: The political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir is once again stirring with controversy as the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) has strongly rebuked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly attempting to extract political mileage from Operation Sindoor, a recent counter-terrorism operation. JKNC has accused the BJP of using the operation not as a symbol of national unity, but as a tool to divide communities and tarnish the legacy of the opposition.

Provincial President of the JKNC, Rattan Lal Gupta, in a sharply worded press statement, denounced BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, for issuing “misleading and unwarranted” statements that, according to Gupta, misrepresent facts and malign the unmatched legacy of the National Conference.

NC: Standing with the Nation in Crisis

Refuting BJP’s claims, Gupta highlighted that the National Conference has always stood by the nation and its people — during times of tragedy, conflict, and even in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. He recalled the party’s immediate and resolute response to the Pahalgam terror tragedy, emphasizing that NC was among the first to rally behind the Central Government, demanding strong action against terrorism.

Gupta underscored that it was former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who exhibited mature and responsible leadership by calling an All-Party Meeting following the Pahalgam attack. Representatives from all major political parties, including BJP, participated and praised Abdullah's inclusive approach — a moment that marked political unity in the face of adversity.

BJP Accused of Political Opportunism

The NC leader did not mince words in accusing the BJP of weaponizing national security for electoral gains. “Instead of appreciating unity in crisis, BJP chooses to exploit these moments to score political points,” said Gupta. “At a time when the entire country stands united against terrorism, the BJP is still indulging in divisive rhetoric based on malicious thinking.”

Gupta further questioned BJP’s silence on derogatory remarks made by Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah against Brave Col Sofiya Quershi, a move that has sparked outrage across the nation. He urged the BJP to publicly clarify its stance on the issue.

Patriotism Beyond Press Statements

While expressing deep respect for the valor of the armed forces and their achievements, Gupta made it clear that true patriotism goes beyond press statements. “It is lived through consistent action and service to the nation,” he stated. “The National Conference has demonstrated this commitment time and again, in both word and deed.”

A Call for Sincere Governance

Gupta’s message was firm: “We urge the BJP to stop politicising national security. Instead, join hands in a genuine effort to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

In a region where every political move resonates deeply with the sentiments of the public, the NC’s message strikes a chord — calling for unity over division, sincerity over spectacle, and collective strength over partisan strategy.
