Machilipatnam Port set for major upgrade with MoU on real-time cargo evacuation system
Machilipatnam Port is gearing up for a transformative leap in logistics efficiency with the formal exchange of a Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Real-Time Automatic Cargo Evacuation System. Although originally signed on November 9, the MoU was officially exchanged during the Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey towards smarter, technology-driven port operations.
A Strong Alliance for Modern Port Development
The agreement brings together four major entities BEML Ltd, Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL). This powerful collaboration establishes a dedicated Port Alliance that will steer the development and implementation of this groundbreaking project.
Under this partnership, APMB will act as the client, while DMRC, serving as the lead member, will work in coordination with BEML and UTIPL to execute the pilot initiative. Together, the consortium will conceptualise, design, and install the Enhanced Freight Transport System (e-FTS) at Machilipatnam Port.
Revolutionising Cargo Movement with e-FTS
The e-FTS is envisioned as a cutting-edge logistics innovation that automates cargo movement and provides real-time monitoring capabilities. With its rollout, the system is expected to significantly enhance efficiency, reduce manual intervention, and streamline overall port operations.
Once operational, the e-FTS will help reduce cargo turnaround time, increase productivity, and strengthen operational transparency. These improvements will position Machilipatnam Port as a future-ready maritime logistics hub capable of handling growing cargo volumes with speed and precision.
Supporting India’s Vision for Tech-Driven Ports
This initiative aligns perfectly with India’s larger national strategy to modernise its port infrastructure through advanced technology solutions. By enabling faster cargo evacuation, enhanced tracking, and improved coordination across logistics touchpoints, the project will bolster the competitiveness of India’s maritime trade on a global scale.
As cargo movement becomes more automated and intelligent, Machilipatnam Port is set to become a model for the next generation of Indian ports a hub where efficiency meets innovation for seamless maritime logistics.
