Team India breaks silence on whether injured Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma will play Asia Cup final against Pakistan

The much-awaited Asia Cup 2025 final between arch-rivals India and Pakistan has already generated massive excitement, but ahead of the big clash, fans were left worried after injuries to Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma during India’s thrilling Super Over win against Sri Lanka. Team India has now issued an official update on their fitness, clearing the air on whether the two will take the field in the high-stakes final.
Injury Concerns During the Sri Lanka Clash
The dramatic Super 4s encounter at Dubai International Stadium took a toll on two key Indian players. Hardik Pandya was seen clutching his left hamstring after bowling just one over, in which he dismissed Kusal Mendis for a golden duck. The star all-rounder walked off the field immediately and did not return for the rest of the innings.
Meanwhile, young opener Abhishek Sharma showed signs of discomfort in the ninth over while running. By the 10th over, he had to walk off, holding his right thigh. Both players spent the remainder of the innings receiving ice treatment and even pickle juice to combat cramps.
Morkel’s Injury Update
Speaking to reporters after the game, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel clarified that both players had suffered from severe cramps during the match rather than serious injuries.
“Abhishek is fine,” Morkel confirmed, bringing relief to fans. Regarding Pandya, he added: “Hardik, I know we’ll see sort of tonight and tomorrow morning and we’ll make a call on that. But both of them were just struggling with cramps during the game.”
This statement suggests that Hardik’s condition will be assessed closer to the final, while Abhishek is expected to be available.
No Training Ahead of Final
With less than 48 hours to recover, the Indian management has decided not to hold any training session before the big final on Sunday, September 28. Instead, the focus will be on recovery and ensuring players are physically and mentally fresh for the clash.
“The key for the boys is to rest. They’re in an ice bath already. The recovery started straight after the match. The best way to recover is to sleep and stay off your feet. Hopefully they can get a good night’s sleep,” Morkel said.
He further revealed that players will only have individual pool sessions and massages to aid recovery, avoiding any strenuous activities.
Road to the Final
India’s thrilling victory over Sri Lanka via Super Over sealed their spot in the final against Pakistan, setting the stage for yet another chapter in cricket’s most intense rivalry. While the team will hope for Pandya’s availability, the clarity on Abhishek Sharma’s fitness is already a big boost.
As the countdown begins, all eyes will be on whether Hardik Pandya clears the fitness test. For India, having both players available could be crucial against a strong Pakistani side.
