PM Modi may meet CMs of four states over Polavaram project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a landmark high-level meeting with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh on Wednesday to discuss the much-debated Polavaram Project. This meeting marks the first occasion when the Prime Minister will directly engage with all four states involved, underscoring the growing importance of resolving the longstanding disputes surrounding this multi-purpose irrigation and hydroelectric venture.

The Polavaram Project and Its Challenges

The Polavaram Project, situated in Andhra Pradesh, has been at the center of controversy for several years. While designed to provide irrigation, hydroelectric power, and water supply benefits, the project has faced objections from Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. These states have raised concerns related to flooding risks and potential displacement, particularly in tribal-dominated areas. Petitions relating to these issues are currently under consideration by the Supreme Court.

The intervention of the Prime Minister is viewed as a pivotal move that could pave the way for a breakthrough in negotiations or at least provide a clearer roadmap to address the complex, inter-state challenges that have delayed progress.

TDP’s Mahanadu and Nara Lokesh’s Possible Elevation

On the same day, political developments in Andhra Pradesh are drawing attention as the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) holds its annual Mahanadu. The party is expected to announce Nara Lokesh as its working president, effectively positioning him directly below the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief in the party hierarchy. This strategic move is seen as part of the TDP’s efforts to strengthen its leadership structure.

The party will also discuss 14 key draft resolutions that reflect on governance achievements and future initiatives. These include accelerating irrigation projects such as river interlinking and bringing Godavari water to Banakacharla, developing the capital city Amaravati, and advancing reforms in education, women and youth empowerment, power sector improvements, and agricultural profitability through technology. Strengthening law and order by tackling mafia influence is also a major agenda point.

Delhi Congress to Hold Jai Hind Sabha Honouring Armed Forces

Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress is organizing a Jai Hind Sabha on Wednesday to honor the armed forces for their bravery during Operation Sindoor. Senior Congress leaders, including AICC treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, are scheduled to address the event, highlighting the party’s support for the nation’s security forces.

Conclusion

Wednesday promises to be a significant day with major political and developmental developments unfolding across India. The Prime Minister’s meeting on the Polavaram Project could be a game-changer for inter-state cooperation and project progress, while the TDP’s leadership announcement signals important shifts in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape. The Delhi Congress’s Jai Hind Sabha adds a note of national pride by recognizing the valor of the armed forces. All eyes will be on these events as they unfold, shaping the political and developmental narrative in the coming months.
