Maps: Israel has attacked six countries in the past 72 hours

In a dramatic escalation of regional hostilities, Israel has carried out strikes in six countries within just three days Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Qatar, and Yemen. The wave of attacks underscores the widening scope of Israel’s military campaign, raising alarm across the Middle East and beyond.

Targeted Strike in Qatar

On Tuesday, Israel launched a rare strike in Doha, Qatar, marking the first time the Gulf state has been directly targeted. A Hamas leadership compound was bombed during a high-level meeting discussing a US-backed ceasefire for Gaza.

The strike killed six people, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, the director of al-Hayya’s office, three bodyguards, and a Qatari security officer. Israel’s top targets reportedly survived, but the attack sent shockwaves through the region. Explosions were heard across Doha’s skyline, just 35km from CENTCOM, the US military’s regional headquarters.

Relentless Bombardment of Gaza

While extending its reach abroad, Israel has continued to pound Gaza. Since Monday, at least 150 people have been killed and more than 540 injured. High-rise buildings, civilian infrastructure, and entire neighborhoods have been destroyed.

On Monday alone, 67 Palestinians were killed, including 14 people struck while waiting for aid. By Tuesday, another 83 lives were lost, including children, with reports of famine-related deaths. Since October 2023, the war on Gaza has claimed over 64,656 lives, with at least 404 starvation deaths confirmed. Thousands more remain buried under rubble.

Lebanon: Ceasefire in Tatters

Despite a truce signed in November, Israeli jets struck eastern Lebanon on Monday, hitting Bekaa and Hermel districts. At least five people were killed in what Israel claimed were Hezbollah weapons depots and facilities   claims not independently verified.

Later, a drone strike near Barja, south of Beirut, injured a Hezbollah member. The strikes highlight Israel’s continued operations in Lebanon, where it still occupies five border outposts in violation of ceasefire terms.

Escalations in Syria

Late Monday night, Israel targeted Syria’s Homs air force base and a military site near Latakia, causing heavy explosions. Syria condemned the strikes as a “blatant violation” of sovereignty and part of “a series of aggressive escalations.”

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has stepped up its military footprint, including seizing the buffer zone in the Golan Heights. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reports nearly 100 Israeli attacks this year, destroying 135 sites and killing 61 people.

Tunisia: Gaza Flotilla Struck Twice

Israel has also targeted pro-Palestinian flotillas off Tunisia’s coast. On Monday night, the Global Sumud Flotilla’s Family Boat was hit by a suspected drone in Sidi Bou Said port, sparking a fire. The 23-metre vessel, carrying delegates from 44 nations, was damaged but all on board survived.

A second flotilla vessel, the Alma, sailing under a UK flag, was attacked Tuesday night in Tunisian waters, again causing fire damage but no casualties. These flotillas are part of international efforts to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, echoing previous flotilla incidents since 2010.

Yemen: Sanaa Airport Targeted

On Wednesday, Israeli warplanes struck Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, hitting Houthi positions at the airport  the second such attack on the site in a month. In late August, Israeli strikes in Sanaa killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several senior officials.

A Wider Regional Confrontation

The sheer scale of Israel’s operations   spanning six nations in just 72 hours   signals a significant shift in regional conflict dynamics. The attacks come at a time when diplomatic channels, including Qatari-brokered talks, were attempting to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza.

Analysts warn that Israel’s multi-front offensive risks dragging the entire region into deeper instability, testing the limits of existing truces, and undermining fragile diplomatic negotiations.
