Lando Norris adds to F1 Championship lead with 2nd straight win in Sao Paulo
A Dominant Display in Brazil
Lando Norris continued his impressive Formula 1 season with another masterful performance, securing victory at the São Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The British driver, representing McLaren, started from pole position and maintained control throughout the race to claim his seventh win of the season. The result extends Norris’ lead in the Drivers’ Championship standings and further establishes McLaren’s dominance this year.
Championship Lead Widens
After taking the lead in the standings with a win in Mexico City, Norris solidified his position at the top with another strong finish in Brazil. He now sits at 390 points, 24 points ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri (366 points). With three races remaining, the championship battle is heating up, but Norris’ consistency is giving him a comfortable cushion. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen trails in third with 341 points, 49 points adrift of Norris.
Top Finishers in São Paulo
Norris crossed the finish line over 10 seconds ahead of Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, who achieved a career-best second place. Antonelli’s remarkable drive saw him finish just less than four-tenths of a second ahead of Verstappen, who stormed from last place early in the race to secure a podium finish.
Behind them, George Russell took fourth place, keeping his position as fourth in the overall standings. Oscar Piastri finished fifth after receiving a controversial 10-second penalty for a collision with Antonelli that led to Charles Leclerc’s retirement from the race.
Ferrari’s Frustration Continues
Ferrari endured another disappointing outing in São Paulo. Following Leclerc’s exit, Lewis Hamilton also retired mid-race, leaving the team with only six points. The setback dropped Ferrari to fourth in the Constructors’ Championship standings, as McLaren and Mercedes continue to battle for supremacy at the top.
Norris on His Winning Mindset
After the race, Norris reflected on his approach and praised his team for their relentless effort.
“Just focus on yourself and the team,” said Norris. “McLaren are doing an amazing job, giving me a great car. We’re pushing hard every single weekend, and I’m pushing hard away from the track too. It’s so rewarding it doesn’t come easy, that’s for sure. Honestly, I don’t think we were the quickest on track today, but I’m glad to take home the win.”
Looking Ahead
With only three races left in the 2025 F1 season, the tension is building as Norris edges closer to what could be his first-ever Formula 1 World Championship title. McLaren’s strong form, combined with Norris’ confidence and precision, makes him the driver to beat as the season enters its thrilling final stretch.
