Kamarajar Port becomes India’s first port to handle automobile transshipment

Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), located near Chennai, has etched its name in history by becoming the first port in India to handle automobile transshipment operations. This milestone marks a significant leap in India’s maritime capabilities, opening new avenues for global trade and logistics.

Maiden Automobile Transshipment at KPL

On 27th August 2025, KPL successfully handled its first-ever automobile transshipment consignment. A total of 550 cars belonging to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) Group were discharged at the General Cargo Berth (GCB) from the car carrier m.v. Tourmaline Ace.

These vehicles, originating from Singapore, were carefully parked at the GCB Transit Yard, awaiting their next journey. The cars are scheduled to be reloaded onto the car carrier m.v. Marguerite Ace on 29th August 2025, for onward delivery to multiple global destinations, including South Africa, Mauritius, and Tanzania.
