Jaldhi Overseas moves for chemical tanker newbuilds

Strategic Move for Fleet Renewal
Singapore-based Jaldhi Overseas, a prominent shipping arm of India’s Bothra Group, has taken a major step toward strengthening its position in the chemical tanker segment. The company has announced the acquisition of six stainless steel newbuild chemical tankers, as part of its long-term strategy to modernize and expand its fleet.
New Orders from Japan and China
The newbuild order includes three vessels from Japanese shipyards:
Two 26,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers ordered from Asakawa Shipbuilding, and
One 20,000 dwt stainless steel unit contracted at Fukuoka Shipbuilding.
These vessels are expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2028. According to shipbuilding industry sources, the 26,000 dwt units are valued at over $48 million each, while the 20,000 dwt unit carries a price tag of around $40 million.
In addition, Jaldhi Overseas will also be acquiring three larger 40,000 dwt chemical tankers from Nantong Xiangyu Offshore & Marine Engineering in China. These ships are also scheduled for delivery in 2028, marking a significant scale-up in carrying capacity for the company.
Modernizing a Veteran Fleet
This expansion marks a pivotal shift from the company’s current operational fleet of three stainless steel chemical tankers, which were built between 2000 and 2006. The newbuilds will not only replace older tonnage but also enhance the company’s ability to cater to the growing and more complex needs of global chemical transport.
A Broader Vision Beyond Chemicals
Since its establishment in 2004, Jaldhi Overseas has grown into a diversified maritime player. Apart from chemical tankers, the company maintains an impressive orderbook that includes:
Post-panamax and ultramax bulk carriers,
MR (Medium Range) tankers,
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) carriers, and
Very large ammonia carriers.
This strategic diversification reflects Jaldhi’s adaptive growth model and its ambition to be a strong, multifaceted presence in the global shipping landscape.
Positioning for Future Demand
With increasing environmental regulations and evolving customer requirements, investing in modern, efficient, and stainless steel chemical tankers is a smart move. Jaldhi’s latest fleet enhancement shows a clear commitment to operational excellence, compliance, and customer satisfaction. These newbuilds will significantly improve the company’s capacity, performance, and readiness for future challenges in the chemical shipping sector.
