Infosys Foundation renews funding for diabetes centre; ‘Dixit Lifestyle’ aids HbAIc control

In a significant move to boost public health efforts against Type 2 diabetes, the Infosys Foundation has renewed its financial support to the Pune-based Association for Diabetes and Obesity Reversal (ADORE), led by renowned diabetologist Dr. Jagannath Dixit. The extension of this funding continues the work of the Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Program, which has already made strides in empowering people to reverse diabetes through simple lifestyle changes.
The Dixit Lifestyle: A Simple Yet Effective Approach
Dr. Dixit advocates a straightforward and sustainable method for reversing obesity and Type 2 diabetes, emphasizing:
Eating only twice a day when genuinely hungry
Increasing protein intake and reducing carbohydrates
Finishing meals within 55 minutes
This approach reduces the frequency of insulin spikes, which in turn supports weight loss, reduces abdominal fat, and most importantly, aids in the prevention or reversal of diabetes.
Measurable Results: HbA1c Levels Under Control
The outcomes from ADORE’s Diabetes Reversal Counselling Center are nothing short of promising. Among 3,500 registered patients, there was an average weight loss of 6.2 kg over six months. More impressively, 398 patients have brought their HbA1c levels an important indicator of blood glucose control below 6.5% without medication, maintaining these levels for at least three months. Of these, 365 patients are from Pune and surrounding areas.
Real Stories of Recovery
One remarkable case is that of Vithal Thorat (62), a retired police constable, who brought his HbA1c down from 16.7% in June 2023 to 6.2% by November 2023, simply by following the Dixit lifestyle no medication involved.
Expanded Reach with Renewed Support
The renewed funding from Infosys Foundation originally ₹2.4 crore has enabled the expansion of services. The new centre in Pune, set up with the support of the Ram Padma Godbole Foundation, will now operate from Monday to Saturday between 5 PM and 9 PM, offering free medical check-ups and counselling services.
In addition to Pune, ADORE’s services now span across Nagpur, Nashik, Thane, Kalyan, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Surat, Belgaum, Madgaon, Bhayandar, and Badlapur, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.
A Community-Focused Movement
With growing numbers of diabetes patients in India over 101 million according to the ICMR-INDIAB study Dr. Dixit's model proves that reversing diabetes doesn’t always require medicines, but commitment to change. Beyond diabetes, the lifestyle has also helped 35–40 individuals manage high blood sugar levels without drugs and helped four people quit tobacco a testament to the lifestyle’s holistic health benefits.
As the Infosys Foundation continues to support such vital community initiatives, Dr. Dixit’s vision of a diabetes-free India seems not just hopeful, but achievable.
