India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai to showcase ₹10 lakh crore investment opportunities

Mumbai is set to become the epicentre of global maritime discussions as it gears up to host India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW2025) from October 27 to 31, under the theme “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision.” The grand summit promises to be one of the world’s largest maritime gatherings, targeting ₹10 lakh crore in investment flows across critical sectors such as port modernisation, green shipping, logistics, shipbuilding, and digital maritime technologies.

Massive Investment Push in Maritime Infrastructure

Officials from Chennai Port Authority and Kamarajar Port Ltd will present projects worth ₹1.20 lakh crore, inviting private players to participate in ventures that include the Northern Rail Link and Northern Port Access Road. According to Sunil Paliwal, Chairperson of both port authorities, IMW2025 will surpass previous editions in scale and ambition, expanding from a three-day event in 2023 to a full week this year.

Strategic Sessions and Global Participation

The summit will host over 12 concurrent sessions, exploring topics such as financing, port infrastructure, and state-level maritime initiatives. Special focus will also be given to union territories like Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, showcasing their untapped potential. Additionally, the SheEO Conference will spotlight women’s empowerment in the maritime sector, while other sessions will address shipbuilding revival and green maritime initiatives. Delegates from around 100 countries are expected, fostering cross-border collaboration and strategic partnerships.

Chennai and Kamarajar Ports in the Spotlight

The Chennai Port Authority will highlight its outer harbour project, valued at ₹8,000 crore, aimed at attracting private investors and finalising a transaction advisor. Meanwhile, Kamarajar Port will showcase a pipeline of projects centred on bulk cargo including coal, automobiles, POL, LNG, and bunkering. Its ambitious expansion plan seeks to grow from nine to 22 berths by 2047, underscoring long-term growth potential.

Chennai Port’s “four Cs” strategy clean cargo, cruise, cars, and containers  will also be showcased, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and diversification.

Boosting India’s Shipbuilding Ambitions

A major focus of IMW2025 will be India’s aspiration to become one of the top-five shipbuilding nations by 2047. This goal is bolstered by the ₹70,000 crore Shipbuilding and Maritime Package 2025, offering infrastructure status, tax incentives, and credit support. International firms from South Korea and Japan are already exploring opportunities, with Mazagon Dock Ltd and Cochin Shipyard Ltd planning new facilities in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

IMW2025 represents a crucial milestone in India’s Maritime Amritkal Vision 2047, a long-term roadmap designed to strengthen maritime trade, logistics efficiency, and global competitiveness.
