Ilia Topuria trashes Conor McGregor’s lifestyle that might affect Notorious’ potential comeback – “Needs to die and be born again”

Conor McGregor’s name has long echoed through the UFC halls as one of the most charismatic and impactful fighters the sport has ever seen. But today, the conversation around The Notorious is less about his next big fight and more about whether he’ll ever return at all. And according to UFC veteran Joe Rogan and former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, that return is becoming increasingly unlikely — thanks, in part, to McGregor’s controversial lifestyle.
A Fading Legend?
In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan didn’t sugarcoat his opinion when asked about the potential comeback of McGregor. “If I had a bet, no,” he said bluntly. “Because he has not come back yet. If he really wanted to, he would have been back in the gym, had a fight scheduled, drug tested, clean, training, gone through a camp, had a fight.”
Rogan pointed to McGregor’s absence, rumored injury issues — like the broken toe before his scheduled UFC 303 bout with Michael Chandler — and his apparent lack of motivation. “Heal the toe. It’s two months. Then you’re back in camp. But he didn’t,” Rogan added, showing skepticism about McGregor’s desire to compete at the top level again.
Lifestyle in the Spotlight
Beyond injuries and delays, Rogan and Topuria both homed in on McGregor’s lifestyle as a major concern. “And also partying. Constant partying. All these legal problems he has. Scooting around on yachts, driving around a Lamborghini… he’s wealthy,” Rogan stated, noting how success has perhaps distanced the Irishman from the gritty training needed to remain competitive.
Ilia Topuria, who joined Rogan on the podcast, didn’t hold back either. The Spaniard, who recently moved up to the lightweight division and has been actively calling out Islam Makhachev, aimed a harsh critique at McGregor:
“His toe is f****, his chin is f****, his body is f*****. With that much parties and drugs and all that, you're gonna have to pay that price at some point… You are paying the price with your health which is the dumbest thing you can do in your entire life."
A Brutal Truth
Topuria, known for his no-nonsense attitude in and out of the cage, went even further with his assessment: “It depends on who he is gonna face. Because if you put him against me, he needs to die and be born again.”
Such words may seem like classic fight talk, but they reflect a growing sentiment in the MMA community. Even Daniel Cormier, another respected veteran, has reluctantly admitted that McGregor might be done. With the years slipping by and younger fighters like Topuria rising through the ranks with clean, focused lifestyles, the gap between McGregor's past glory and present reality only widens.
Different Paths, Different Results
While McGregor’s legacy is etched in UFC history, Topuria is building his own, but on a very different path. Focused, disciplined, and hungry, Topuria’s contrast to McGregor is striking. He’s aiming high, calling out champions and staying ready, all while keeping his head down and his training sharp.
The question remains: Can Conor McGregor shut down the noise and make a triumphant return? Or has the spotlight that once made him a superstar now become the very thing that’s dimming his fire?
Only time will tell. But if he plans on proving the doubters wrong — including Rogan and Topuria — he’ll need more than fame, fortune, and fire tweets. He’ll need a total rebirth.
