DP World expands capacity and green operations at Mundra

DP World has taken another significant step in strengthening India’s trade ecosystem by expanding its capacity and advancing sustainable operations at the Mundra International Container Terminal (MICT). With the deployment of new state-of-the-art equipment, Mundra continues to reinforce Gujarat’s position as a key global trade hub.

Boosting Capacity with Advanced Infrastructure

The latest addition of a new quay crane capable of handling vessels up to 22 rows across has equipped Mundra to serve some of the world’s largest container ships. This advanced crane comes with predictive maintenance systems, enhanced CCTV coverage, and energy-efficient drive systems, ensuring improved reliability, precision, and productivity.

With this development, DP World Mundra now operates eight quay cranes, raising its overall handling capacity to 1.56 million TEUs by 2027. The enhancement will not only strengthen throughput capacity but also ensure faster vessel turnaround times, supporting the growing demands of global shipping.

Advancing Green Port Operations

In line with India’s Harit Sagar green port guidelines, DP World has also introduced three new electric Rubber-Tyre Gantry Cranes (e-RTGCs), expanding its eco-friendly fleet to 31 units. This move is expected to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 18.9%, lower noise pollution, and contribute toward India’s target of achieving 50% electrification of port equipment by 2030 and 90% by 2047.

These investments complement DP World’s global sustainability commitments to cut Scope 1 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030, based on a 2022 baseline, with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Strengthening India’s Trade Competitiveness

Strategically located, DP World Mundra offers direct connectivity to key global regions including the Far East, Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa, the US East Coast, and the Mediterranean. This connectivity ensures that India remains competitive in international trade while providing shippers with reliable and efficient supply chain solutions.

Looking Ahead

With its dual focus on capacity expansion and sustainable operations, DP World Mundra is not only meeting the current demands of global trade but also preparing for the future. By combining efficiency with environmental responsibility, the terminal stands as a model for next-generation port operations in India.
