Congress 'clean-up' or 'fake' exit polls? Leaders react as big NDA win predicted in Bihar
With the Bihar Assembly election results just days away, political temperature in the state has soared as exit polls project a sweeping victory for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). According to at least seven exit polls including Matrize, P-Marq, Peoples Pulse, Bhaskar, People's Insight, JVC, and Poll Diary the NDA is likely to cross the majority mark of 122 seats out of 243, with most projections giving them over 133 seats.
NDA’s Confidence Boosts After Exit Polls
The exit polls have energized the NDA camp, with BJP and its allies exuding confidence about a landslide win. The NDA coalition includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party, Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular).
BJP MP Dinesh Sharma expressed optimism, stating that the “clean-up” of the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) from Bihar has already begun. “The cleanup of Congress and RJD from Bihar has begun. This time's results will be the most surprising,” Sharma remarked, asserting that the NDA would return to power with a two-thirds majority.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari echoed similar sentiments, claiming the Opposition alliance had already conceded defeat. “The Mahagathbandhan has already accepted defeat. What we have seen on the ground and the support for the NDA is reflected in the exit polls,” Tiwari told ANI. He credited the support of women and Gen Z voters, saying that they trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar for progress and peace.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister also commented that the exit polls mirror the public’s trust in Modi and Nitish Kumar. “This is an exit poll; we will go even higher in the exact poll,” he said confidently. “People in Bihar want peace and social harmony, while RJD and Congress thrive on frenzy. The NDA will form the government with a huge majority.”
Opposition Calls Exit Polls ‘Fake’ and ‘Pre-Planned’
On the other hand, the Opposition Mahagathbandhan, comprising Congress and RJD under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership, has dismissed the exit polls as misleading. RJD leader and MP Sudhakar Singh argued that the high voter turnout nearly 69% in the final phase and 66% overall indicates a mood for change. “The high voter turnout is always considered as people’s mandate against the ruling dispensation. The exit polls are far from reality,” Singh asserted.
Adding to the Opposition’s criticism, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav labeled the exit polls “pre-planned” and “fake.” He remarked, “‘Jiska dana uska gana’ those who feed, people sing their tune,” accusing sections of the media of bias. He also reminded reporters that the exit polls during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were proven wrong, as “big BJP leaders had lost along with the fake exit polls.”
A Split in Projections: One Poll Favors Mahagathbandhan
Interestingly, not all exit polls agree. Journo Mirror, a news portal, broke ranks with the majority and predicted 130–140 seats for the Mahagathbandhan, suggesting that the NDA could be limited to 100–110 seats. This contrasting prediction has added another layer of suspense as Bihar awaits its verdict.
Bihar Awaits the Final Verdict
Elections in Bihar were conducted in two phases, on November 6 and 11. With the counting of votes scheduled for Friday, November 14, all eyes are now on whether the NDA’s predicted “clean-up” of the Congress-RJD alliance becomes reality or whether the Opposition’s claims of “fake” exit polls prove true.
