AP government to complete 4 new ports by December 2026: CM Naidu

In a major push toward transforming Andhra Pradesh into a logistics and maritime hub, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to complete the Phase-1 construction of four major ports — Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, and Kakinada Gateway Port — by December 2026.

Maritime Infrastructure on Fast Track

During a review meeting held in Amaravati on Tuesday, CM Naidu emphasized the strategic importance of port infrastructure in boosting the State’s economy. Describing ports and fishing harbours as "valuable economic assets," he urged departments to accelerate work and operationalise these facilities swiftly.

The latest status of the ongoing construction shows impressive progress:

  • Machilipatnam Port is 43% completed and is expected to be fully ready by November 2026.

  • Ramayapatnam Port leads with 64% of Phase-1 works already completed.

  • Mulapeta Port stands at 46% completion, while the Kakinada Gateway Port is currently 29% complete.

Fishing Harbours Also in Focus

In addition to commercial ports, the Chief Minister has mandated the timely construction of fishing harbours at Juvvaladinne, Nizampatnam, Machilipatnam, and Uppada. These too are to be completed in Phase-1 by December 2026, aimed at empowering coastal communities and enhancing the seafood export capacity of the state.

Comprehensive Transport and Logistics Plan

To ensure seamless connectivity, the State government plans to launch Phase-1 work for new airports in Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Amaravati, and Srikakulam. The government also envisions upgrading and expanding state roads, aligning them with national highways through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, catering to future traffic demands.

Further strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s logistics ecosystem, CM Naidu revealed that the government is planning to establish a dedicated logistics corporation. This entity will streamline cargo movement and enhance the efficiency of multimodal transport systems.

A Vision for Economic Growth

This aggressive infrastructure development plan underlines the AP government’s commitment to making Andhra Pradesh a premier destination for trade, logistics, and industry. The completion of these ports and harbours, along with supporting airports and road networks, is expected to open up new employment opportunities, attract investments, and bolster exports.
