Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh lays stone for Vizag’s first 50-MW AI-powered Edge Data Center and Open Cable Landing Station

In a major stride toward strengthening India’s digital backbone, Andhra Pradesh Minister of Information Technology Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for Visakhapatnam’s first 50-MW AI-powered Edge Data Center and Open Cable Landing Station (CLS) on October 12, 2025 (Sunday). The state-of-the-art facility, being developed by Sify Infinit Spaces Limited, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, marks a defining milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s digital transformation journey.

₹1,500-Crore World-Class Facility at Rushikonda

The ₹1,500-crore project is being established at Rushikonda on 3.6 acres of land allocated by the State government. It will be developed in two phases and will play a crucial role in driving innovation, employment, and investment opportunities across Andhra Pradesh. Designed to cater to the growing demand for AI-driven enterprises and digital infrastructure, the facility will be interconnected via Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) substations and connected by at least two fiber networks to ensure seamless data flow and redundancy.

Strengthening India’s Digital Gateway

The upcoming Open Cable Landing Station (CLS) is expected to serve as a strategic landing point for submarine cables that connect India with Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian nations. This infrastructure will enable low-latency data processing closer to end users, enhancing connectivity, speed, and digital efficiency. The project further positions Visakhapatnam as India’s global digital gateway on the eastern seaboard, aligning with the government’s vision to transform Andhra Pradesh into a technology powerhouse.

Minister Lokesh’s Vision for a Digital Andhra Pradesh

Speaking at the foundation ceremony, Mr. Nara Lokesh highlighted the transformative potential of the project. He said, “Sify’s world-class infrastructure will not only strengthen our State’s position in the global technology map but also catalyse new opportunities in innovation, employment, and investment.”

He further added, “This is just the first step, and approvals for a mega data center are already in place. This marks a defining moment in Andhra Pradesh’s digital journey and India’s path towards technological self-reliance.”

Sify’s Commitment to India’s Digital Growth

Sify Technologies Chairman, Raju Vegesna, expressed his pride in supporting Andhra Pradesh’s digital evolution. “We are proud to enable Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a key hub for global connectivity and digital infrastructure. This initiative is just the beginning of our long-term commitment to strengthening India’s digital economy and advancing AI-led innovation at scale,” he said.

He also noted that Sify Infinit Spaces  the subsidiary spearheading the project  caters to the co-location needs of hyperscalers, enterprises, and cloud-based clients, with a portfolio of 14 data centers across six cities in India.

A Milestone for India’s Digital Future

The establishment of this AI-powered Edge Data Center and CLS underscores Andhra Pradesh’s growing importance in India’s technology landscape. Beyond enhancing connectivity, it will serve as a catalyst for digital transformation, attract global investments, and open new avenues in AI, data analytics, and cloud infrastructure.
