‘A Marathi Hindu will…’: Uddhav Sena reacts to Mumbai BJP chief's Mamdani win remark

‘A Marathi Hindu will…’: Uddhav Sena reacts to Mumbai BJP chief's Mamdani win remark

In a heated political exchange, the Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday reacted sharply to Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam’s remark made after the victory of Muslim Indian-origin leader Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral polls. The controversy erupted when Satam reportedly stated that no “Khan” could be imposed upon Mumbai, sparking outrage from the opposition camp.

Anand Dubey’s Response
Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey hit back at Satam, questioning his mental state and sarcastically offering to pay for his “treatment at Agra’s Pagal Khana.” Dubey claimed that Satam’s “mental balance” had deteriorated ever since he took over as the city BJP president, adding that his comments reflected his insecurity about the party’s declining hold over Mumbai’s political landscape.

Dubey told ANI, “Ameet Satam’s mental state has deteriorated. From the day he became president, he realised he was about to be wiped out. That’s why he’s been making bizarre statements about the mayor of Mumbai from day one.”

Reaffirming Sena’s Stand on Mumbai’s Mayoral Post
Even as Dubey condemned the BJP for constantly indulging in “Hindu-Muslim politics,” he made it clear that the Uddhav Sena envisions a Marathi Hindu mayor for Mumbai. “I confidently say that the saffron flag will be flown in the municipal elections, and a Marathi Hindu will become the mayor here,” he declared, underscoring the Sena’s longstanding Marathi-centric stance in city politics.

‘Don’t Prove PM Modi Wrong’
Escalating his criticism, Dubey also invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Muslim outreach initiative   the ‘Saugat-e-Modi’ kits distributed in Uttar Pradesh earlier this year. “I want to ask Ameet Satam if PM Modi was sending the Saugat-e-Modi kits to Mamdani, or Pakistan, or Bangladesh?” Dubey asked. He further advised Satam “not to prove PM Modi wrong” through divisive remarks.

Upcoming Civic Elections in Maharashtra
The political war of words comes ahead of key local body elections in Maharashtra. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare recently announced that polls for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats will be held on December 2, with counting scheduled for December 3. The Mumbai civic polls, expected early next year, are likely to witness intense competition between the BJP and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), as both parties battle for dominance in the country’s financial capital.

With campaign temperatures already rising, Dubey’s fiery remarks and Satam’s controversial statement have added a new spark to Maharashtra’s ever-charged political atmosphere.
