VPPL partners GTI to launch skill development programme for Vadhvan youth
Introduction
In a significant step toward strengthening local workforce capabilities, Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. (VPPL) has partnered with Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd. (APM Terminals Mumbai) to roll out a dedicated skill development initiative for youth from the Vadhvan region. The collaboration marks a strategic investment in human capital aligned with the future needs of the maritime and logistics sector.
Strategic Partnership Under Kaushalya Nirmiti Yojana
Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. has awarded a Letter of Award (LoA) to Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd. to implement the Kaushalya Nirmiti Yojana Skill Development Programme. This partnership reflects a shared vision to build industry-ready talent through structured, high-quality training linked directly to operational realities at ports and logistics hubs.
Residential Training at a Dedicated Facility
Under the programme, selected youth from the Vadhvan region will participate in a fully residential training programme at GTI’s newly developed training centre. The facility has been designed to provide a professional learning environment that blends classroom instruction with practical exposure, ensuring trainees gain a strong foundation in maritime and logistics operations.
Structured Learning with Industry Exposure
The programme will be conducted in batches of 30 students, allowing focused attention and effective skill transfer. Each batch will undergo six months of structured training, followed by a one-year internship. This extended internship period will offer hands-on, on-ground industry exposure, enabling participants to apply their learning in real operational settings and develop job-ready competencies.
Fully Funded Commitment to Youth Empowerment
The entire programme will be fully funded by VPPL, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to local youth empowerment. By removing financial barriers to quality training, VPPL aims to create sustainable employment pathways while building a skilled workforce that can support the growth of the port and the wider maritime ecosystem.
Building a Future-Ready Maritime Workforce
This initiative not only supports regional development but also contributes to the broader goal of strengthening India’s maritime and logistics talent pool. By combining structured skilling, residential training, and real-world internships, the VPPL–GTI partnership sets a strong benchmark for industry-led workforce development linked to large infrastructure projects.
