VOC Port’s direct port entry facility crosses 10,000 TEU mark

The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) has achieved a remarkable milestone in its logistics efficiency drive. Its newly commissioned Direct Port Entry (DPE) facility has successfully handled 10,465 TEUs of export containers up to August 2025, crossing the 10,000 TEU mark on August 27 just four months after its inauguration in April.
A milestone achievement
This achievement highlights the growing acceptance of the DPE facility among exporters and logistics stakeholders. By contributing 7.15% of the port’s total export-laden volume of 1,46,418 TEUs during the April–August period, the facility has quickly become an essential part of VOC Port’s operations.
Enhancing efficiency and reducing costs
The DPE facility has been instrumental in providing seamless direct connectivity to the terminal, enabling smoother cargo movement and reducing overall logistics costs. By eliminating intermediate handling and delays, the system benefits hinterland customers who rely on faster turnaround times for their export consignments.
Boosting South India’s trade competitiveness
Port officials have expressed confidence that the DPE initiative will further consolidate VOC Port’s position as a key gateway for South India’s trade. With direct entry streamlining supply chain processes, the port is poised to enhance its competitiveness in global shipping networks.
Looking ahead
As trade volumes continue to grow, VOC Port’s focus on efficiency, customer support, and advanced logistics infrastructure will strengthen its role as a vital contributor to India’s maritime economy. The DPE milestone is not just a mark of operational success but also a step towards making Indian ports more globally competitive.
