VOC Port posts 65% surge in limestone throughput

Significant year-on-year growth
VOC Port has recorded a remarkable 65.77% year-on-year surge in limestone handling, moving 5,87,288 tonnes up to July in FY 2025–26, compared to 3,54,274 tonnes during the same period last year. This substantial increase reflects the port’s strengthening position as a key hub for bulk cargo movement in India.
Driving regional demand
Limestone, an essential raw material for the construction and manufacturing sectors, is experiencing robust regional demand. The spike in throughput is largely driven by steady requirements from cement plants, steel producers, and other industrial users, which rely heavily on consistent limestone supply to maintain production cycles.
Operational excellence and infrastructure upgrades
The port attributes its stellar performance to several operational advancements, including improved cargo-handling efficiency, upgraded infrastructure, faster vessel turnaround times, and enhanced last-mile connectivity for bulk cargo. These developments have significantly reduced delays and improved the overall flow of materials to industrial destinations.
A strategic link in India’s growth story
Industry experts note that VOC Port’s achievement underscores its growing role as a critical link in the raw material supply chain, directly supporting the nation’s infrastructure and industrial growth. The port’s ability to handle rising volumes positions it as an indispensable partner in India’s economic expansion.
Looking ahead
With continued demand from key industries, VOC Port officials remain optimistic about sustaining the growth momentum in the coming months. As infrastructure projects and industrial activities accelerate nationwide, the port is expected to play an even greater role in ensuring the timely delivery of vital raw materials.
