Visakhapatnam Port will soon have a UCCC

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is preparing to take a major leap toward becoming a next-generation smart port with the establishment of a Unified Command Control Centre (UCCC). In collaboration with the National Institute for Smart Governance (NSIG), the VPA is working on setting up this centralised hub, which will be fully operational within the next six months.
Smart Coordination Across the Port Ecosystem
The UCCC is envisioned as the nerve center for managing and coordinating the entire port ecosystem. It will harness advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor and streamline port operations, ultimately enhancing efficiency, safety, and compliance.
Predictive Insights for Reduced Downtime
One of the core benefits of the UCCC is its ability to minimize operational downtime using predictive analytics. By analyzing real-time data from equipment and traffic, the system can anticipate potential failures and congestion, allowing pre-emptive actions. This will significantly reduce repair costs, waiting times, and interruptions in cargo movement.
Next-Gen Surveillance and Monitoring Tools
The control centre will be equipped with multispectral cameras capable of monitoring critical zones such as road-rail crossings, cargo yards, and terminals. These will be supported by AI/ML-driven edge computing systems that process data on-site for faster decision-making. Additionally, drones will provide aerial surveillance of vast or hard-to-reach areas, further boosting situational awareness.
IoT-Enabled Equipment Monitoring
IoT sensors installed on berth equipment like mooring hooks, cranes, and front-end loaders will transmit data to predictive maintenance systems. These insights will help anticipate wear and tear, allowing timely maintenance, thus improving equipment lifespan and reducing disruptions.
Integrated Land and Lease Management
The UCCC will also integrate VPA’s ongoing AI/ML-based land management platform. This feature will automate lease monitoring, rent collection tracking, and identify unauthorized land usage, enhancing transparency and land utilization efficiency.
Paving the Way to a Future-Ready Port
Visakhapatnam Port has already implemented advanced systems such as ERP integration, the NLP-Marine platform, and the Electronic Measurement Book (eMB) for real-time data management. The Unified Command Control Centre is the next strategic step in VPA’s journey toward a smart, transparent, and future-ready maritime infrastructure.
As the maritime world continues to evolve with digital transformation, Visakhapatnam Port’s proactive approach through UCCC highlights its commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
