Tenders Invited for 173-Acre Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Thoothukudi
A Strategic Logistics Boost for Southern India
In a significant step toward strengthening India’s southern logistics infrastructure, State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has floated global tenders for the development of a 173-acre Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Silapatharai in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu.
The project aims to create an integrated freight hub near V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), one of India’s fastest-growing ports in handling diverse cargo segments.
Integrated Freight Hub Near VOC Port
The proposed logistics park will function as a modern cargo consolidation and distribution center. Designed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the MMLP will include:
Advanced warehousing facilities
Cold chain infrastructure for agri and perishable exports
Container yards for efficient storage and movement
Dedicated rail siding for seamless rail connectivity
Strong road connectivity linking port and hinterland
With VOC Port witnessing growing cargo volumes in wind energy equipment, agricultural exports, and industrial goods, the logistics park will significantly enhance cargo evacuation efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
Alignment with Tamil Nadu Logistics Policy & PM Gati Shakti
This initiative aligns with Tamil Nadu’s progressive logistics policy and the national infrastructure vision of PM Gati Shakti. The objective is to create integrated, multimodal connectivity that lowers inland transport costs and improves supply chain performance.
The project will also support the port-industrial corridor connecting Thoothukudi to Madurai and other southern districts, strengthening trade and industrial activities across the region.
Economic Growth & Employment Opportunities
The development of the 173-acre MMLP is expected to:
Attract domestic and international investments
Generate significant employment opportunities
Boost industrial and export competitiveness
Strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a logistics leader
By improving freight efficiency and reducing logistics bottlenecks, the project will enhance trade competitiveness for exporters and manufacturers operating in southern India.
Tenders Open for Consultancy, Design & Development
Global bids have been invited for consultancy, design, and overall development of the park. This move opens opportunities for infrastructure developers, logistics operators, and investors to participate in shaping a next-generation freight ecosystem.
The timing is strategic, as VOC Port continues its modernization drive, including digital twin implementation and green port initiatives. Together, these expansions position Thoothukudi as an emerging southern logistics powerhouse.
A Transformational Step for the Port-Industrial Corridor
The proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Silapatharai represents more than infrastructure development it symbolizes Tamil Nadu’s ambition to create a globally competitive logistics network.
With integrated connectivity, policy support, and port-led industrial growth, Thoothukudi is set to become a key gateway for southern India’s trade expansion, driving economic progress across the region.
