Telangana man ‘shot dead’ by police in U.S., family requests MEA to help in bringing back mortal remains

A tragic incident has left a family in Telangana in deep grief after a 30-year-old man from Mahabubnagar district was allegedly shot dead by the police in the United States. The deceased, Mohammed Nizamuddin, had been working as a software professional in California after completing his MS.

The Incident

According to the information shared by his family, the incident reportedly took place on September 3, 2025, in Santa Clara, California. Nizamuddin was allegedly shot dead by the Santa Clara Police following a scuffle with his roommate. However, the exact details surrounding the confrontation remain unclear.

His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said that the news was conveyed to the family much later, on the morning of September 18, 2025, by one of Nizamuddin’s friends. “According to information received, the scuffle took place over a petty matter. However, the details of the incident are unclear,” Hasnuddin said.

Father’s Appeal to MEA

In a heartfelt letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Hasnuddin has requested urgent help in bringing his son’s mortal remains back to Mahabubnagar. “Today morning I came to know he (Nizamuddin) was shot dead by Santa Clara Police, and his mortal remains are in some hospital in Santa Clara, California. I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead,” the letter stated.

He further urged the minister to instruct the Embassy of India in Washington D.C. and the Consulate General of India in San Francisco to extend assistance in repatriating his son’s remains to India.

Support from MBT

Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan shared the letter with the media and appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to take immediate steps to help the grieving family.

A Promising Life Cut Short

Nizamuddin had built a promising career in the U.S. after completing his higher education. The sudden and tragic loss has left his family and community in shock. With his father’s appeal now reaching the Indian government, the family awaits official support to bring their son’s mortal remains back home.

The case has raised concerns and questions over the circumstances of the police action in California, with the family hoping for clarity and justice as they mourn their irreparable loss.
