PM Modi To Chair Cabinet Committee On Political Affairs Meet Today, First Since Pulwama Attack

In a politically significant move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) meeting today—the first since the infamous Pulwama attack in 2019. This meeting is scheduled amidst heightened tension at the India-Pakistan border following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Alongside the CCPA meeting, the Prime Minister will also preside over the second Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting within a week and hold a full Cabinet meeting later in the day.
Multiple High-Level Meetings Amid Rising Tensions
The timing of today’s meetings is critical. With border tensions escalating post the Pahalgam terror strike that claimed 26 lives, the Indian government is moving swiftly. Prime Minister Modi had earlier chaired a CCS meeting on April 23, a day after the attack, where the government rolled out stern non-military measures. These included the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari border, and revocation of visas for all Pakistani nationals in India.
CCPA—India’s ‘Super Cabinet’
Often dubbed the “Super Cabinet,” the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs holds unparalleled power in shaping India’s political and economic course. It plays a vital role in addressing inter-state issues, foreign policy decisions, economic strategies, and internal security matters with deep political impact.
Today's CCPA meeting marks the first such gathering since 2019’s Pulwama attack, where 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives. That meeting had laid the groundwork for major diplomatic and military responses, including stripping Pakistan of its 'Most Favoured Nation' status and conducting the Balakot airstrikes.
Why Today’s CCPA Meet Matters
Given this historical backdrop, today’s CCPA meeting has drawn significant attention. As the situation along the border intensifies, the CCPA is expected to deliberate over further strategic, political, and economic actions to address the current threats and fortify India’s stance both domestically and internationally.
Who Will Be at the Table?
The CCPA meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Modi and will include key ministers:
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
Home Minister Amit Shah
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari
Health Minister JP Nadda
...along with other senior cabinet ministers, ensuring representation across pivotal ministries.
As the world watches how India reacts to continued provocations, today’s Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs meeting is poised to shape national policy in both the short and long term.
