Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary at the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat, commemorating the life and legacy of India’s “Iron Man.”
Honouring the Architect of India’s Unity
On this momentous occasion, PM Modi highlighted Sardar Patel’s unparalleled contribution to the nation’s integration. He said, “India pays homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. He was the driving force behind India’s integration, thus shaping our nation’s destiny in its formative years. His unwavering commitment to national integrity, good governance and public service continues to inspire generations. We also reaffirm our collective resolve to uphold his vision of a united, strong and self-reliant India.”
Ekta Diwas Celebrations at the Statue of Unity
Following the floral tribute, Prime Minister Modi administered the Ekta Diwas pledge to attendees and observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade, marking the celebration of National Unity Day. This year’s event featured a vibrant cultural festival along with the National Unity Day parade comprising contingents from the BSF, CRPF, and state police forces. According to PTI, the parade was organised in a style similar to the Republic Day parade, making this year’s celebration even more special.
President Murmu’s Tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India’
President Droupadi Murmu also paid her respects to Sardar Patel, emphasizing his monumental role in uniting the nation. “On the birth anniversary of 'Iron Man' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, I extend my heartfelt best wishes to all my fellow citizens. Sardar Patel was a great patriot, visionary leader, and nation-builder, who accomplished the historic task of unifying the country through his unwavering resolve, indomitable courage, and adept leadership,” she stated.
She further added, “His dedication and spirit of national service serve as an inspiration to us all. Let us, on the occasion of 'National Unity Day', unite together and resolve to build a strong, harmonious, and excellent India.”

Born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is revered as one of India’s greatest leaders. Known as the “Iron Man of India”, he played a pivotal role in uniting more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union after Independence. Serving as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Patel ensured the seamless integration of diverse territories, securing the unity and stability of the newly independent nation.
