PM Modi on a whirlwind tour of Bengal, Bihar among four states

In a dynamic show of governance and leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a high-voltage two-day tour across Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, starting Thursday. The visit comes in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, a decisive counter-terrorism military campaign launched by India in response to the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack. This is the PM’s first public tour post the operation, signaling both development focus and national resilience.
Day 1: Celebrating Sikkim’s Progress
PM Modi kickstarted his journey in Gangtok, Sikkim, by attending the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood at the Paljor Stadium. In a move to boost healthcare and tourism in the region, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple key projects:
A 500-bed district hospital worth over ₹750 crore in Namchi.
A passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling, located in Gyalshing district.
A statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok.
Day 1: Gas Project and Political Heat in Bengal
Modi then proceeded to Alipurduar, West Bengal, to launch the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project worth ₹1,010 crore, spanning Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. The visit comes at a politically charged time with Assembly polls due next year. The rally aimed to rejuvenate BJP cadres, especially after former MP John Barla’s defection to TMC. However, TMC leaders took a swipe at the PM, calling him a "migratory bird" and accusing the Centre of withholding state funds.
Day 1: Mega Projects in Poll-Bound Bihar
In the evening, the PM landed in Patna, Bihar, a state preparing for Assembly polls. He launched a new ₹1,200 crore terminal at Patna airport, followed by a rally and a visit to the state BJP office. As noted by BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal, this visit holds emotional weight due to Modi’s earlier vow in Madhubani to retaliate for the Pahalgam attack.
Day 2: Multi-Crore Push in Bihar and UP
On Friday, the PM will reach Karakat in Bihar to unveil projects worth over ₹48,520 crore. This large-scale investment is aimed at infrastructure and welfare ahead of the state’s elections in October–November.
He will then head to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to launch and inaugurate development projects worth ₹20,900 crore, emphasizing connectivity, urban development, and public services.
Amit Shah’s First Jammu Visit Since Operation Sindoor
While Modi is rallying across the east, Union Home Minister Amit Shah begins a significant two-day tour of Jammu, his first visit post-Operation Sindoor. Shah will:
Conduct a high-level security review at Raj Bhawan with LG Manoj Sinha and top army and police officials.
Visit Poonch, the district worst hit during Pakistani shelling, where he will meet affected families, visit a damaged gurdwara, and inspect damage.
Interact with BSF jawans in Poonch before returning to Delhi.
His visit is being watched closely, with local leaders like NC’s Rattan Lal Gupta demanding a relief package for affected civilians, and Congress’s Tariq Hameed Karra questioning the delay in Shah’s visit.
Operation Shield: Civil Defence Drill Across Border States
Adding to the security-centric theme, the Ministry of Home Affairs is launching Operation Shield, a civil defence mock drill scheduled for Thursday at 5 PM across J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Chandigarh. The exercise will simulate air raids, drone attacks, and missile threats, aiming to strengthen local readiness against external threats.
This comes after the successful first round of the nationwide civil defence drill conducted earlier this May.
Conclusion
PM Modi’s whirlwind tour, coupled with Amit Shah’s critical visit to Jammu and the national-level civil defence exercise, underscores India’s dual commitment to development and security. As the country prepares to mark the first anniversary of Modi 3.0 on June 9, the message is loud and clear: India is building, defending, and uniting like never before.
