Piyush Goyal unveils six initiatives to strengthen logistics and trade competitiveness

Marking a decade of the Make in India initiative, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launched six new initiatives in New Delhi aimed at enhancing India’s logistics and industrial competitiveness. Among the key announcements were the upgraded Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0 and Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS) 3.0, designed to strengthen the country’s supply chains and industrial infrastructure.

Real-Time Insights with LDB 2.0
Goyal highlighted that LDB 2.0 will provide real-time visibility into the availability of facilities and infrastructure across India’s logistics ecosystem. Developed by NICDC Logistics Data Services (NLDSL), the upgraded platform introduces advanced features, including export container tracking on the high seas, multi-modal shipment visibility, and integration with the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP). Additionally, a live heat map of container distribution across the country will help both industry and policymakers anticipate bottlenecks, optimize planning, and reduce logistics costs.

Industrial Excellence with IPRS 3.0
On the industrial front, IPRS 3.0, developed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) with support from the Asian Development Bank, aims to boost India’s industrial ecosystem. Building on its pilot in 2018 and IPRS 2.0 in 2021, the third edition introduces new evaluation parameters, such as sustainability, green infrastructure, logistics connectivity, digitalization, skill linkages, and tenant feedback. Industrial parks will now be benchmarked and categorized as leaders, challengers, or aspirers based on key performance indicators, promoting transparency, attracting investors, and driving healthy competition among states and union territories.

Progress in National Industrial Corridor Development
Goyal also shared updates on the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDC), noting that 20 plug-and-play industrial parks and smart cities are under development. Out of these, four have been completed, four are under active construction, and the remaining are in bidding or tendering stages.

Driving Efficiency and Global Competitiveness
Collectively, these initiatives aim to make India’s logistics more efficient, supply chains more resilient, and industrial infrastructure globally competitive. With LDB 2.0 enhancing visibility and IPRS 3.0 setting transparent benchmarks, India is poised to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for trade and industrial investment.
