Paradip Port Sets New Cargo Handling Record in January
Introduction
India’s maritime sector continues to demonstrate strong growth, and Paradip Port has once again made headlines with a landmark achievement. In January 2026, the port recorded its highest-ever monthly cargo handling, reinforcing its position as one of the country’s most efficient and strategically important major ports.
Record-Breaking Performance in January 2026
Paradip Port Authority achieved an all-time high cargo throughput of 14.44 million metric tonnes (MMT) in January 2026. This performance surpassed the previous January record of 14.32 MMT set in 2024, as confirmed by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The achievement highlights consistent operational growth and the port’s rising role in supporting India’s trade volumes.
Key Drivers Behind the Achievement
The record cargo handling was the result of sustained infrastructure augmentation, streamlined operational processes, and improved coordination among terminals and port stakeholders. Continuous upgrades in handling facilities, better planning, and efficient execution enabled smoother vessel turnaround and higher productivity across cargo categories.
Leadership and Team Effort
PPA Chairman P L Haranadh attributed this milestone to the strategic guidance of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. He also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of officers, employees, contractual workers, and all port stakeholders whose collective contribution ensured seamless operations and record performance.
Strengthening India’s Maritime Growth
With a strong focus on modernisation, capacity enhancement, and operational excellence, Paradip Port is well-positioned to further support India’s expanding trade and economic growth. This achievement not only reflects the port’s operational capabilities but also underscores its growing importance in the national logistics and maritime ecosystem.
Conclusion
The new January cargo handling record marks another milestone in Paradip Port’s growth journey. As infrastructure development and process optimisation continue, the port is set to play an even more significant role in strengthening India’s position as a global maritime and trading hub.
