Modi to begin 4-day tour of UK, Maldives; Kejriwal, Mann in Gujarat

As India navigates a crucial week in its political and diplomatic calendar, multiple high-profile events are set to unfold. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overseas tour to significant domestic political movements, the week promises developments that could shape both international relations and the internal political landscape.

Modi’s 4-Day Visit to the UK and Maldives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a four-day diplomatic tour starting Wednesday, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with the United Kingdom and the Maldives. The first leg of the tour will see Modi in the UK from July 23 to 24, where he is scheduled to hold comprehensive discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This visit marks his fourth trip to the UK, and he is also expected to meet King Charles III.

A significant highlight of the visit will be the formal signing of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, a landmark deal projected to double bilateral trade to $120 billion by 2030 from the current $60 billion. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the discussions will focus on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with key areas including trade, innovation, defense, climate change, health, and education.

Following the UK visit, Modi will fly to the Maldives, where he has been invited as the “guest of honour” for the island nation’s Independence Day celebrations. The visit is expected to reinforce regional ties and mutual cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.

RSS Chief to Address BMS Foundation Day Event

In a major domestic event, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will address the 70th Foundation Day of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Wednesday. Held at Keshav Kunj, the RSS office, the event will witness participation from a wide array of delegates including Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, officials from the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and senior trade union leaders.

BMS President Hiranmay Pandya highlighted that senior activists will be felicitated for their dedicated contributions to the labour movement in India. The event will underscore BMS's journey as one of India’s largest trade union bodies.

Kejriwal and Mann in Gujarat for Farmers' Cause

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal, national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will kick off a two-day visit to Gujarat on Wednesday. The duo will participate in a ‘Kisan-Pashupalak Mahapanchayat’, a rally aimed at highlighting the issues faced by farmers and cattle-breeders.

The visit will also see the leaders campaigning in support of jailed AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava, signaling the party’s continued push to expand its base in Gujarat. According to AAP’s Gujarat unit chief Isudan Gadhvi, the event will strengthen grassroots support and spotlight agrarian concerns.

Tipra Motha Raises Voter Roll Concerns

In Tripura, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has secured a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday to address its serious concerns regarding the enrolment of illegal immigrants in the state's voter list. TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma confirmed the meeting in a social media post, noting that the party has requested a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll similar to Bihar.

As a constituent of the BJP-led coalition in Tripura, Tipra Motha’s appeal raises pertinent questions about electoral integrity and demographic changes in the northeastern state.
