What began as a policy disagreement has now spiraled into a full-scale social media slugfest between two of the most influential figures in the world   former US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. But while the billionaire vs ex-president drama played out, internet users, especially Indians, had one thing in mind: “Modi ji, please broker a ceasefire!”

The meme wave was quick and fierce. As Trump and Musk exchanged digital barbs   ranging from trade policies and elections to bruises and subsidies   meme-makers on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) erupted in creativity. One viral post declared, “Modi ji should announce a ceasefire between Musk & Trump,” gathering over 143.5K views in no time. What followed was a deluge of hilarious takes, imagining Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepping in as a global peace broker.

Internet comedy with a hint of déjà vu

The joke wasn’t entirely baseless. Social media users drew parallels to a real-life incident when Trump had earlier claimed credit for mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan   a claim India swiftly denied. Yet, that reference gave meme-creators the perfect narrative arc.

A parody account posted, “After a long night of talks mediated by India, I am pleased to announce that Donald Trump & Elon Musk have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both individuals on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.” A nod to both sarcasm and diplomacy, it summed up the collective internet mood.

Adding fuel to the fire, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi joined in, sharing a screenshot of Musk criticizing Trump, with the caption: “SOS: call for ceasefire !!”

Another user joked, “BREAKING: PM Modi takes credit for ceasefire between Elon & Trump. Elon & Trump denied any third person was involved. PM Modi posts it on X after the denial.” Meanwhile, one more meme added, “Zelensky demands ceasefire between Trump and Elon.” The internet had officially gone global.

What’s the Trump vs Musk feud all about?

Behind the humor lies a very real and unusually personal spat. The relationship between the ex-president and tech magnate unraveled publicly. It began with Musk criticizing Trump’s administration, particularly slamming the “One Big Beautiful Bill” as a “disgusting abomination”   a clear shot at the government’s massive spending plan.

Tensions escalated after Musk reportedly stepped down from his satirical role as chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), supposedly set up to cut national debt. Trump’s response? A public statement of disappointment: “I was very disappointed in Elon.”

Musk didn’t hold back. He fired back on X: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election... Such ingratitude.” He later added, “The Trump tariffs will cause a recession in the second half of this year.” And in a nuclear-level post, he wrote: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files... Not to be outdone, Trump responded on Truth Social: “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t wipe out Musk’s government subsidies!”
