India-Zambia trade agreement signed

Strengthening cooperative ties
India has taken another significant step in enhancing its global trade network by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zambia on July 18. The agreement aims to promote trade alliances between cooperatives in both nations, paving the way for stronger economic and cultural ties. Cooperation Minister Amit Shah made the announcement on Tuesday, underscoring the government’s commitment to expanding India’s cooperative export ecosystem.
Empowering cooperative exports
According to Shah, the Ministry of Cooperation is actively working through Indian missions abroad to boost the reach of Indian cooperatives. This includes providing market intelligence to National Cooperative Exports Ltd (NCEL) and establishing connections with importers from targeted countries. The MoU with Zambia is a key milestone in this strategic effort, enabling both nations to explore mutually beneficial trade opportunities.
Global partnerships on the rise
The Zambia agreement is not an isolated initiative. NCEL has also entered into MoUs with international partners, including Senegal-based Sinton Vantage Trading and Indonesia-based PT Sinton Surini Nusantara. These partnerships highlight India’s proactive approach to fostering global cooperative trade links and diversifying export markets.
Looking ahead
With this new trade agreement, both India and Zambia are poised to leverage their cooperative sectors for sustainable economic growth. The focus on information exchange, market access, and direct importer connections is expected to create a strong framework for long-term collaboration. As India deepens such alliances, its cooperative movement is set to gain a stronger foothold in global markets, benefiting producers, traders, and consumers alike.
