The festive season has arrived with a massive relief for Indian households. From today, Monday, September 22, the new GST rate cuts have officially come into effect, making hundreds of items from essential kitchen staples to aspirational consumer goods more affordable. With this move, the government aims to ease the financial burden on citizens while boosting consumer spending during the festive season.

GST Reforms Announced

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Sunday address to the nation, highlighted that the new GST structure will now have only 5% and 18% slabs, simplifying the system and reducing costs for everyday items and big-ticket purchases alike.

“Food items, medicines, soap, brush, paste, health and life insurance, many such goods and services will either be tax-free or have only 5% GST,” the PM said. He further stressed that aspirational products like TVs, ACs, refrigerators, and dishwashers will now be more accessible for middle-class families.

Overall, around 375 items are now cheaper under the new GST rates, including mass consumption goods like ghee, paneer, butter, jam, dry fruits, coffee, ketchup, namkeen, and ice creams.

Big Savings on Televisions

One of the biggest highlights of this reform is the price cut on televisions. The GST on TVs above 32 inches has been reduced from 28% to 18%, leading to significant price drops.

  • Sony India: MRP reductions between ₹5,000 and ₹71,000 across Bravia TV models (43–98 inches).

  • LG: Price cuts ranging from ₹2,500 to ₹85,800 for TV sizes between 43–100 inches.

  • Panasonic: MRPs slashed between ₹3,000 and ₹32,000.

In effect, TV prices are coming down by up to ₹85,000, depending on model and specifications.

AC Prices Take a Cool Dip

Air conditioners are also becoming more affordable with the GST cut from 28% to 18%. Major companies like Voltas, Daikin, Godrej Appliances, Panasonic, and Haier have announced new MRPs:

  • Godrej Appliances: Price cuts between ₹3,200 and ₹12,450 across split inverters and tower ACs.

  • Haier: Gravity (1.6 ton inverter) AC price reduced to ₹46,085 (down ₹3,905); Kinouchi AI (1.5 ton, 4 star) AC now ₹37,788 (down ₹3,202).

  • Daikin: 1 ton 5-star inverter split AC slashed to ₹18,890 (from ₹20,500).

  • LG: Entry-level ACs cut by ₹2,800–₹4,400, with the 1.5 ton inverter split AC now at ₹42,390 and the 2 ton split AC at ₹55,490.

Refrigerators Become More Affordable

Good news for families upgrading their kitchens refrigerator prices are also falling.

  • Godrej Appliances: Prices reduced by 7–8%.

  • LG: Fridge prices cut by 8–9%.

This drop will make both entry-level and premium refrigerators easier on the pocket.

Dishwasher Prices Slashed Too

Even dishwashers are not left out of the GST bonanza. The GST on dishwashers is now 18%, leading to reductions of up to ₹8,000.

  • BSH Home Appliances: Entry-level model now at ₹45,000 (down from ₹49,000), while the top model is down to ₹96,500 (a saving of ₹8,000).

A Festive Bonanza for Consumers

With these GST cuts, the festive season is starting with big savings for consumers. From televisions to air conditioners, refrigerators to dishwashers, the government’s decision ensures that both essential items and lifestyle upgrades become more affordable.
