Google Mixboard: An AI-powered Moodboard builder for creative projects

New Delhi:
Google has introduced Mixboard, an experimental AI-powered tool designed to simplify the way people build moodboards and explore design ideas. Launched under Google Labs, the platform is powered by the Gemini 2.5 Flash model and is currently available in public beta in the United States. With Mixboard, users can create and refine boards effortlessly using text prompts, uploaded images, and natural language commands, making it an open canvas for creativity.

How does Mixboard work for users?

Mixboard has been designed to make brainstorming and designing more intuitive. Here’s what users can do with the platform:

  • Start a project easily: Kick off with a simple text prompt or use pre-designed templates.

  • Upload or generate visuals: Add personal images or let AI generate unique visuals.

  • Edit with natural language: Combine, adjust, or regenerate images with simple commands.

  • Quick redesigns: Use one-click options like “regenerate” or “more like this”.

  • Contextual text generation: Generate descriptive text from images on the board for more creative direction.

For example, prompts like “show me cups, bowls, and plates in Memphis style” or “plan an autumn party in my living room” can instantly create thematic moodboards, perfect for home décor, event planning, DIY projects, or creative brainstorming.

Mixboard versus other creative platforms

Moodboards aren’t new, with platforms like FigJam and Adobe Firefly Boards already offering similar experiences. However, Google Mixboard stands out by merging Pinterest-style inspiration with AI-driven generation. This makes it more than just a collection of ideas it’s an interactive design assistant that allows users to build, refine, and reimagine projects in real time.

Early access and community

Currently, Mixboard is accessible through labs.google/mixboard in the U.S. public beta. To enhance collaboration and gather feedback, Google has also launched a Discord community, where early adopters can share their experiences and stay updated on upcoming Labs experiments.

Google’s focus on visual creativity

The launch of Mixboard reflects Google’s increasing emphasis on AI-powered visual design tools. By combining generative AI with intuitive user experiences, Mixboard aims to empower professionals and hobbyists alike whether you’re a designer, event planner, or simply someone experimenting with new ideas at home.

In essence, Mixboard turns imagination into visuals with just a few clicks and words, making it a powerful tool for the next generation of creative projects.
