Gateway Terminals India signs MoU with JNPA and VPPL for skill development

In a significant move aligned with the Government of India’s “Skill India Programme”, Gateway Terminals India (GTI) — also known as APM Terminals Mumbai — has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. (VPPL) to roll out a dynamic and inclusive Skill Development Programme for the port sector.

Empowering Local Communities Through Skilling

This strategic collaboration marks a major step towards enhancing employability, diversity, and workforce readiness in the Indian maritime and logistics industry. Designed specifically to empower local communities, especially project-affected persons (PAPs), this initiative will equip individuals with industry-specific skills and knowledge.

The programme will be conducted at GTI’s premises and will deliver vocational training and technical expertise tailored to various domains within port operations — including Safety, Maintenance, Planning, and Equipment Operations.

In Line with National Priorities

The initiative supports the Union Budget 2025’s focus on employment generation and is a direct step toward fulfilling the government’s vision of “ports for prosperity and ports for progress.” By providing industry-aligned training and focusing on inclusion, the programme ensures that participants are not only trained but also job-ready for opportunities across India’s growing port and logistics sector.

A Model for Inclusive Growth

One of the standout features of the programme is its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The partnership aims to enhance the participation of women in port operations and foster a culture of equal opportunity within the industry.

Key elements of the initiative include:

  • Training individuals impacted by port development projects (PAPs)

  • High-quality, industry-relevant curriculum

  • Inclusive training methodologies

  • Diversity-focused programmes

  • Apprenticeship opportunities with stipends or compensation

A Powerful Collaboration for India’s Maritime Future

This collaboration combines the operational expertise of GTI, the administrative strength of JNPA, and the developmental vision of VPPL to create a transformational skilling initiative. Together, they aim to build a workforce that is not only proficient in technical knowledge but also aligned with the future needs of the industry.

By investing in skill development, this MoU is poised to revolutionize workforce development in the port sector — laying the foundation for economic empowerment, community upliftment, and sustainable industrial growth.
