Delhi Airport handles 1 mn tonnes of cargo for second year in a row

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has once again cemented its status as a leading air cargo hub by crossing the 1 million tonne cargo mark for the second consecutive year. This remarkable feat showcases the airport’s growing role in supporting India’s air logistics and trade connectivity.

FY25 Sees Robust Growth in Cargo Volumes

In the financial year 2025 (FY25), the GMR Group-led Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) successfully handled a total of 1.109 million tonnes of cargo, marking an 11% year-on-year (YoY) growth from the previous year. This impressive volume includes 0.73 million tonnes of international cargo and 0.38 million tonnes of domestic cargo, underlining the airport’s balanced and strategic role in both global and domestic supply chains.

Consistent Performance in FY24

The achievement in FY25 follows a strong performance in FY24, during which the airport managed 1.003 million tonnes of cargo. Of this, 0.65 million tonnes was international and 0.36 million tonnes was domestic. This consistency reflects the airport's robust infrastructure and its capacity to support growing cargo demands year after year.

World-Class Infrastructure Powering Growth

Delhi Airport attributes its success to world-class facilities and infrastructure tailored to handle a wide variety of cargo, ranging from perishables to high-value and time-sensitive shipments. In a recent LinkedIn post, the airport highlighted that it continues to play a critical role in strengthening India’s air cargo network through operational excellence and technology-driven solutions.

A Hub for India’s Air Cargo Future

As India continues to expand its global trade footprint, the performance of airports like IGI plays a pivotal role. With continued investments in automation, cold-chain solutions, and digital cargo handling processes, Delhi Airport is not just meeting today's cargo needs but is well-prepared for future demands.

This two-year streak is a testament to the airport’s strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, and commitment to efficiency. Delhi Airport is clearly establishing itself as a key player in India’s logistics and cargo ecosystem, driving forward the nation's economic ambitions.
