Deendayal Port Authority unloads 79,780 tonnes of coal in 24 hours

The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), located in Kandla, Gujarat, has once again demonstrated its operational excellence by setting a new national benchmark in coal handling. In a remarkable display of coordination and efficiency, the port successfully unloaded 79,780 tonnes of steam coal from the vessel MV KMAX RULER within just 24 hours.
This record-breaking feat was proudly shared by the DPA on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where it stated:
"Record Reloaded at DPA! In a stellar feat of efficiency, MV KMAX RULER unloaded 79,780 tons of Steam Coal in just 24 hours at Deendayal Port, Kandla setting a new benchmark!"
Coordination at its Best
The success of this massive operation was made possible through the seamless collaboration of key stakeholders:
Vessel Agent: M/s Genesis Shipping
Stevedore: M/s Shiv Shipping Services
Importer: M/s Gallant Metals
Their synchronized efforts ensured not only speed but also safety and precision throughout the process.
Aiming Higher: Cargo Handling Targets for 2024–25
This achievement comes on the heels of another major milestone, as DPA exceeded its own cargo handling target for the financial year 2024–25, managing over 150.16 million tonnes. Inspired by this success, DPA Chairperson Sushil Kumar Singh recently announced even more ambitious goals targeting 170 million tonnes, a growth of over 10 percent. This expansion is likely to redistribute cargo traffic across other Indian ports and reinforce DPA’s leadership.
Kandla: The Strategic Gateway of Western India
Kandla Port, now governed by the Deendayal Port Authority, holds a pivotal role in India’s maritime network. Strategically located on the Gulf of Kutch in the Kachchh District of Gujarat, it serves as the primary seaport for states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir, as well as the vibrant industrial zones of North and West India.
Constructed in the 1950s following India’s independence, Kandla Port has grown into the largest port in India by cargo volume. In recent years, DPA has maintained its status as India’s busiest major port, and is now preparing to enhance its capacity even further through private sector participation.
Looking Ahead
The recent coal unloading record is more than just a number it is a testament to the port’s capability, infrastructure, and the vision of its leadership. With enhanced operational performance and a strong focus on infrastructure expansion, the Deendayal Port Authority continues to cement its place as a powerhouse in India’s maritime sector.
