Bike rally to mark national cancer awareness day in Mysuru

Promoting Cancer Awareness through Action
In an inspiring initiative to mark National Cancer Awareness Day, the School of Public Health and Department of Oncology, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, is organizing a bike rally on Friday (November 7). The event aims to spread crucial awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of early detection among the public.

Route and Schedule of the Rally
The rally will begin at 8:30 a.m. from JSS Medical College and will pass through key city points including Ramaswamy Circle, City Railway Station Circle, Government Ayurvedic College Circle, Highway Circle, and LIC Circle, before concluding back at JSS Medical College at 9:15 a.m. The 45-minute ride through Mysuru’s heart is designed to engage citizens and spread the message of health vigilance against cancer.

Cancer: A Major Public Health Challenge
According to a press release from the organisers, cancer remains a significant health concern in India, with an estimated 14 lakh new cases diagnosed each year. The statement also clarified a common myth   cancer is not contagious and cannot spread from person to person through physical contact.

Lifestyle and Early Detection Key to Prevention
Experts emphasize that lifestyle-related factors such as unhealthy diets, stress, tobacco use, and lack of physical activity are driving the increasing number of cancer cases, especially among younger populations. Early detection remains the most effective strategy to fight the disease. Regular screenings for breast, cervical, oral, and colorectal cancers can significantly improve treatment outcomes and survival rates.

Building a Healthier Nation through Awareness
The organisers highlighted that prevention through healthy habits such as balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol is essential to reduce India’s growing cancer burden. Initiatives like the Mysuru bike rally serve as reminders that awareness and early action can save lives, fostering a healthier and more informed society.

A Call to Join the Movement
As riders take to the streets of Mysuru, the rally stands as a powerful symbol of collective responsibility in the fight against cancer. It encourages everyone to make small yet significant lifestyle changes and to support cancer awareness initiatives for a better tomorrow.
