Bihar election final results: Breakdown of how many seats BJP, JD(U), RJD, Congress won

The Bihar Assembly election results have delivered one of the most dramatic political turnarounds in recent years. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on course for a stunning return to power with a sweeping victory in 202 seats, far exceeding even the most optimistic exit poll predictions. The landslide verdict marks a defining political moment for the state, reshaping Bihar’s electoral landscape once again.

NDA’s Massive Mandate

On Friday, the NDA delivered a crushing blow to the Opposition Mahagathbandhan, racing ahead to secure a commanding position in the 243-member Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, showcasing its expanding footprint across the state. Close behind, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) claimed 85 seats, reaffirming its strong grassroots presence and continued relevance in Bihar politics.

This overwhelming performance pushed the NDA comfortably beyond the majority mark of 122, ensuring a stable and decisive return to governance. The victory margin, surpassing expectations, has been described as nothing short of a political tsunami.

Mahagathbandhan Faces Major Setback

While the NDA surged ahead, the Opposition alliance struggled to even find a foothold. The Mahagathbandhan could secure only 34 seats, placing them far from their earlier aspirations of forming the government. Within the alliance, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 25 seats, retaining its status as the largest party in the coalition. The Congress, however, managed to win only six seats, marking a significant underperformance.

The Left parties CPI(ML) Liberation and CPI(M) won two and one seat respectively. Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which created considerable buzz during the campaign, failed to open its account.

PM Modi’s Remark After the Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed jubilant supporters at the BJP Headquarters in New Delhi on Friday evening. He called the NDA's massive win a “victory of democracy and true social justice,” and stated that the verdict marks the end of Jungle Raj in Bihar. Modi emphasized that this mandate represents a rejection of negative politics and a vote for progress, stability, and development.

Highlighting his new MY formula Mahila (Women) and Youth, the Prime Minister said that voters, especially women and young citizens, played a crucial role in reshaping Bihar’s future. He contrasted this with the Opposition’s traditional MY (Muslim-Yadav) vote approach, asserting that the people chose positivity and development over appeasement politics.

The Prime Minister also expressed confidence that the momentum from Bihar would pave the way for a similar victory in West Bengal next year.

Rahul Gandhi and Opposition’s Response

Despite the clear numbers, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi rejected the results, calling the election “unfair from the beginning.” He expressed gratitude to the voters who supported the Mahagathbandhan and promised a thorough review of the party’s performance.

In a post on X, he wrote, “This fight is for the protection of the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA alliance will deeply review this result and make their efforts to save democracy even more effective.”

Gandhi reiterated that despite the setback, the party would continue its fight to uphold democratic values and constitutional principles.

Conclusion

The 2025 Bihar election results stand as a major political watershed, underscoring the NDA’s sweeping influence and the electorate’s strong preference for stability and development. With a historic mandate in hand, the alliance prepares to chart the next chapter of governance in Bihar, while the Opposition reflects on a deeply disappointing outcome.
