‘Agents of Russia’: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleges 150 Congress MPs took Soviet money under HKL Bhagat's leadership

In a fresh political flashpoint, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has levelled serious allegations against the Congress party, accusing it of acting as a foreign-funded entity during the Cold War era. Dubey’s claims are rooted in a 2011 declassified document released by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, which he says exposes deep Soviet influence within India’s political and media ecosystem.

Accusations Rooted in CIA Declassification

Taking to social media platform X, Dubey cited the unclassified CIA document, claiming that over 150 Members of Parliament from the Congress party were allegedly “funded” by the Soviet Union. He pointed specifically to the involvement of the late Congress leader HKL Bhagat, under whose leadership, according to Dubey, this funding operation was conducted. The BJP MP questioned whether these MPs were essentially functioning as “agents for Russia.”

Journalistic Influence and Intelligence Intrusion

Dubey further escalated his allegations by asserting that a group of Indian journalists also acted as Soviet agents, aiding in a massive disinformation campaign. He claimed that the shared document lists 16,000 news articles which were strategically published to shape public opinion in favor of the USSR.

A group of journalists were their agents, and there is mention of a total of 16,000 news articles that Russia got published,” he stated. He went on to allege that around 1,100 KGB operatives were present in India during the Congress regime, infiltrating bureaucracies, business organizations, communist parties, and opinion makers, thereby manipulating India's policy decisions.

Foreign Election Funding & Indo-German Connection

In a startling revelation, Dubey also named former Congress candidate Subhadra Joshi, accusing her of receiving ₹5 lakh from the German government during an election. Despite losing, she was later made President of the Indo-German Forum, raising suspicions about foreign influence and backdoor diplomacy. “Is this a country or a puppet of slaves, agents, and middlemen?” Dubey questioned, demanding an immediate investigation into the matter.

Revival of Historical Grievances

This isn’t the first time Dubey has targeted Congress with historical accusations. Last week, he criticized former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution during the Emergency period, accusing her of “murdering” the very foundation laid by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The word secular is already written in the first paragraph of the Constitution; the murder of the Constitution written for Scheduled Castes and Tribes is in the blood of Congress,” Dubey asserted in another post.

Call for Accountability

As these claims reignite debates over Cold War-era politics and foreign interference, BJP’s call for an independent probe into these revelations places fresh pressure on the Congress party. While Congress has yet to respond in detail to these specific allegations, the political temperature is expected to rise in the coming days.

In a time where foreign interference in democratic institutions remains a global concern, such allegations if investigated thoroughly could have wide-reaching implications for India’s political history and national security narratives.
