Adani Ports becomes India’s first transport utility to join global TNFD network
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s largest integrated transport utility, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian transport and logistics company to join the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) as an official Adopter. With this commitment, APSEZ has pledged to begin nature-related reporting from FY2026, marking a major step forward in its sustainability and biodiversity initiatives.
A Landmark Move in Sustainability
The TNFD framework is an internationally recognized system that helps businesses identify, assess, and disclose their dependencies and impacts on nature. By adopting this framework, APSEZ joins a select group of global port and logistics operators dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems and advancing biodiversity conservation.
In a company statement, APSEZ described this initiative as a “significant milestone” in its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) journey, reinforcing its dedication to aligning business operations with global sustainability standards.
Understanding the TNFD Framework
Established by the UNEP Finance Initiative, UNDP, WWF, and Global Canopy, the TNFD provides science-based guidance for integrating nature-related risks and opportunities into business and financial decision-making. The framework encourages companies to adopt transparent, responsible, and measurable environmental reporting practices that support nature-positive growth.
Aligning Corporate Reporting with Global Standards
APSEZ announced that it will begin aligning its corporate disclosures with TNFD recommendations starting FY26. This approach builds upon its existing climate risk assessment and reporting systems, which are already benchmarked against global standards. The integration of TNFD principles will enable APSEZ to strengthen its sustainability governance and enhance stakeholder trust through transparent reporting.
Commitment to Environmental Restoration
Beyond reporting, Adani Ports has made tangible progress in environmental conservation. To date, the company has afforested over 4,200 hectares of mangroves and actively conserved another 3,000 hectares, making it India’s largest private-sector contributor to mangrove ecosystem restoration. These efforts underline APSEZ’s dedication to preserving marine biodiversity and supporting coastal resilience.
Leading the Way Toward Nature-Positive Growth
Through this strategic commitment to TNFD, Adani Ports reaffirms its vision of responsible growth and environmental leadership. The company’s proactive measures not only demonstrate its resolve to protect nature but also position it as a global leader in sustainable port and logistics development.
By embedding nature-positive principles into its business strategy, APSEZ sets a benchmark for other Indian corporations to follow showcasing how environmental responsibility and economic growth can go hand in hand.
