Two More Indian LPG Ships Transit Hormuz Along Iran Coast

Two additional Indian-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers have safely transited the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz, closely hugging the Iranian coastline, according to ship-tracking data on Monday. The development highlights the continued cautious navigation strategies being adopted by vessels operating in the Persian Gulf amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The vessels Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, both very large gas carriers (VLGCs) sailed northward from the United Arab Emirates coast toward Iran’s Qeshm Island and Larak Island. This route, increasingly used by ships cleared by Iranian authorities, reflects a growing preference for coastal navigation under current regional conditions. By maintaining proximity to Iranian territorial waters, shipping companies aim to minimize potential risks while ensuring smooth passage through one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors.

Maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf region remains under close watch due to ongoing geopolitical uncertainties linked to the Middle East crisis. Shipping operators have been exercising greater caution, with several vessels opting for safer, pre-cleared routes. The coastal routing strategy followed by Jag Vasant and Pine Gas mirrors the path taken by earlier vessels, including other Indian-flagged LPG carriers that successfully navigated the same corridor in recent days after obtaining necessary clearances.

The Strait of Hormuz continues to hold critical importance for global energy trade, handling a substantial share of worldwide oil and gas shipments. Any disruption or perceived risk in this narrow waterway has immediate implications for global markets, influencing energy prices and supply chain stability. As a result, even routine vessel movements through the region attract heightened attention from industry stakeholders and authorities.

Despite prevailing concerns, there has been no reported disruption to cargo operations involving Indian vessels so far. Authorities, ship operators, and maritime stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation, prioritizing the safety of seafarers while ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies. The successful transit of these LPG carriers underscores the resilience of maritime logistics and the effectiveness of coordinated navigation strategies in sensitive waters.
