Samsung Galaxy tri-fold phone leaked via One UI 8 animations- When will it launch?

Samsung may have just dropped its biggest foldable hint yet and not on purpose. Hidden within the latest One UI 8 update, eagle-eyed tech enthusiasts have discovered animations pointing toward a never-before-seen tri-fold device, setting the internet abuzz with speculation. Could Samsung's first Galaxy tri-fold phone be arriving sooner than expected?

A Hidden Surprise in One UI 8

According to reports from Android Authority, the One UI 8 update includes several subtle animations showcasing a device with three panels folding in a G-shaped configuration. This distinct folding method uses two inward-folding hinges, creating a compact and robust form unlike anything currently in Samsung’s foldable lineup.

One animation reveals a left panel with a triple-lens rear camera, a center segment with a front-facing camera and display, and a right panel that appears display-free, likely serving as a protective closing flap. The folding mechanism closely resembles Samsung Display’s earlier “Flex G” prototype, differing from Huawei’s S-shaped tri-fold approach, which includes one outward-folding hinge.

Design Hints and Hidden File Names

Interestingly, the animations show clearer hinge asymmetry in dark mode, which might be a design strategy to reduce screen stress when closed. There's even an internal warning in the system suggesting not to fold the camera side first, hinting at a sensitive folding mechanism.

What’s more intriguing is the mention of “Multifold 7” in the animation file names. While likely a placeholder, this internal codename could indicate Samsung's classification of its next-generation foldable. If rumors are correct, the final name might be the Galaxy G Fold.

Launch Timeline – When Can We Expect the Galaxy Tri-Fold?

While Samsung hasn’t confirmed the tri-fold phone officially, leaks from South Korean tech channel The Bell, as cited by leaker @Jukanlosreve, suggest that mass production will begin in September 2025. This places the expected commercial release between October and December 2025.

As for Samsung's upcoming Unpacked event on July 9, it's likely to center around the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Flip FE. While the tri-fold may get a brief teaser or mention, a full-scale unveiling is not anticipated until later this year.

What This Means for the Future of Foldables

These leaks offer the clearest signal yet that Samsung’s triple-panel foldable dream is becoming a reality. The G-shaped tri-fold design promises enhanced functionality, a more compact fold, and a new direction for mobile form factors. As we await official confirmation, these early glimpses already position Samsung at the forefront of next-gen smartphone innovation.
