Goa to Host Coastal Maritime Governance Workshop Under Maritime Amrit Kaal 2047 Vision
Goa is set to host a significant coastal maritime governance workshop under India’s ambitious Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The initiative aims to strengthen sustainable maritime development, enhance port efficiency, and empower coastal communities along India’s extensive 7,500-kilometre coastline.
The workshop marks another strategic step toward transforming India into a global maritime powerhouse by 2047.
Vision-Driven Maritime Transformation
The event is being organised under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and will focus on aligning state-level maritime strategies with the national blueprint. The objective is to create world-class ports, promote green shipping, and establish seamless logistics networks.
Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 builds upon the foundation laid by Maritime India Vision 2030, expanding its scope with long-term sustainability and global competitiveness in focus.
The roadmap targets:
Rs 80 lakh crore in investments
Creation of 1.5 crore jobs
Leadership in global shipbuilding
Development of mega ports and inland waterways
Adoption of green fuels like hydrogen
Focus Areas of the Workshop
The Goa workshop will address multiple dimensions of coastal governance and maritime development, including:
Coastal regulation reforms to ensure balanced growth and environmental protection.
Infrastructure upgrades to modernize port operations and logistics systems.
Blue economy initiatives to enhance fisheries, tourism, renewable energy, and marine resources.
Improved coastal community engagement to strengthen livelihoods and participation.
The discussions aim to produce actionable strategies rather than just policy dialogues.
Strengthening Goa’s Maritime Hub Status
Goa, home to the prominent Mormugao Port, plays a strategic role in India’s coastal trade network. The workshop is expected to explore ways to enhance connectivity with major ports such as Jawaharlal Nehru Port, improving cargo movement efficiency and trade flow.
Stakeholders from shipping lines, port authorities, and local fisheries are looking forward to concrete policy frameworks that can boost Goa’s status as a maritime hub while ensuring sustainable coastal growth.
Better hinterland connectivity, digital port systems, and green shipping corridors are likely to be key talking points.
Empowering Coastal Communities
A major focus of Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 is inclusive growth. The workshop will address how coastal governance can directly improve livelihoods for fishing communities, small-scale traders, and maritime workers.
By integrating blue economy principles, the initiative aims to:
Generate employment opportunities
Promote sustainable fisheries
Encourage eco-friendly coastal tourism
Support skill development in maritime sectors
Towards a Sustainable Maritime Future
India’s maritime strategy under Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 envisions not only infrastructure expansion but also environmental responsibility and technological innovation.
With Goa hosting this key workshop, the focus remains on:
Sustainable coastal development
Green shipping transformation
Smart port ecosystems
Community-driven growth
As India progresses toward 2047, such collaborative governance platforms will play a crucial role in ensuring that maritime growth is efficient, inclusive, and globally competitive.
The Goa workshop stands as a milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a leading maritime nation in the Amrit Kaal era.
