Virat Kohli walks past Gautam Gambhir without having a word, Rohit Sharma follows but talks to India head coach: Report

A subtle but striking moment at India’s training session in Raipur has sparked fresh speculation about the team’s internal dynamics. On the eve of the second ODI against South Africa, Virat Kohli’s silent walk past India head coach Gautam Gambhir   without a greeting or interaction   caught attention, especially in a phase where conversations around team leadership and future plans are already intense.

A Silent Walk That Spoke Loudly

According to a PTI report, the incident unfolded after Kohli completed a high-intensity batting session under the stadium lights at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium. Kohli, visibly focused and in control throughout his training, wrapped up his stint, rested both bats on his shoulders, and walked straight past Gambhir without uttering a word.

Given the ongoing chatter about their relationship and professional dynamic   especially after Gambhir took over as head coach   this small gesture created big noise.

Contrast With Rohit Sharma’s Interaction

Only moments later, Rohit Sharma concluded his own batting drills in the adjacent net. Unlike Kohli, Rohit briefly paused to exchange a few words with Gambhir before heading into the dressing room. The contrast was notable and added an extra layer of intrigue to the situation.

With both senior batters being closely watched ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, even such fleeting exchanges gain magnified attention.

Kohli & Rohit Shine in Training   Still the Backbone

Despite any off-field interpretations, Kohli and Rohit looked far from distracted.

Kohli was in commanding touch, taking on throw-down specialists Raghu and Nuwan Seneviratne, who pushed the pace aggressively. Kohli middled most deliveries, stamping his authority with crisp stroke-making and sharp footwork.

Rohit, batting alongside, mirrored the same focus and intensity   reinforcing that neither batter is showing signs of slowing down, regardless of speculations surrounding their future.

Gambhir monitored both sessions closely, positioning himself between the nets to observe every detail.

Young Guns Match the Energy

It wasn’t just the seniors who impressed.

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal unleashed a series of powerful leg-side hits.

  • Rishabh Pant, last to bat, came out firing from ball one.

With Raipur’s black-soil pitch expected to be batting-friendly, the entire squad trained with an aggressive, high-scoring mindset.

On-Field Brilliance Continues

Their practice form translated beautifully in the first ODI:

  • Rohit Sharma smashed 57 off 51 balls at the top.

  • Virat Kohli hammered his 52nd ODI century, scoring a majestic 135 off 120 balls, including seven towering sixes.

The duo’s brilliance powered India to a formidable 349   a target that proved too much for South Africa, despite a spirited chase after being reduced to 11 for 3.

Series Outlook

With India leading the three-match series 1–0, all eyes now shift to Wednesday’s game, where the team will look to seal the contest. Whether Kohli and Gambhir exchange words or maintain professional distance, their shared goal remains unchanged   winning series for India.
