MS Dhoni finally loses cool after CSK loss, says 'you can't just keep ...

In a rare display of visible frustration, Mahendra Singh Dhoni—known for his unshakable composure—finally broke his silence with sharp words after Chennai Super Kings suffered a crushing five-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match, held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, saw CSK fall short once again, further dimming their already fading hopes for the IPL 2025 play-offs.

An Inadequate Total on a Batting-Friendly Pitch

CSK posted a modest total of 154, a score Dhoni felt was nowhere near good enough on a Chepauk pitch that showed no serious challenges. “It wasn’t turning a lot, a little two-paced but nothing out of the ordinary,” Dhoni remarked post-match. “In the first innings, the wicket was slightly better and 157 wasn’t a justifiable score.”

The Sunrisers made short work of the chase, reaching the target in just 18.4 overs, despite batting under slightly more challenging conditions in the second innings. Dhoni credited his spinners for bowling well in the right areas but admitted the team was 15-20 runs short, a margin that proved costly.

Frustration with Lack of Cohesion

More than the defeat, what seemed to bother the CSK skipper was the overall lack of cohesion in the team’s performance. “We kept losing wickets… and when a majority of the players are not doing well, you need to make changes. You can't just keep going,” Dhoni said, clearly hinting that a shake-up may be needed.

He emphasized that a few misfiring players could be manageable in a tournament of this scale, but when most of the squad underperforms, the problems multiply. It’s this inconsistency that has dragged the team down the points table.

Highlighting Brevis but Not Enough Support

Dhoni took a moment to commend Dewald Brevis, who showed promise in the middle order. “He batted really well, and we needed that. But the middle overs are crucial. You either play the spinners with skill or target the right areas—something we need to work on,” he added.

Bottom of the Table and Out of Rhythm

With just two wins from nine games, CSK now finds itself at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table, collecting a mere four points. In contrast, SRH moved up to eighth with their third win of the season.

As the tournament moves into its crucial phase, the heat is on the Yellow Brigade. For a team that once defined consistency, this season has been nothing short of turbulent—and if Dhoni’s words are anything to go by, major changes may be on the horizon.
