Mahindra XEV 9S vs Mahindra XEV 9e: How are they different from each other

Mahindra’s electric vehicle lineup has grown stronger with the launch of the all-new Mahindra XEV 9S India’s first all-electric three-row, seven-seater SUV. Positioned between the sporty BE 6 and XEV 9e, the new XEV 9S brings a more practical, family-oriented approach to Mahindra’s Born Electric series. Although the XEV 9S shares some of its DNA with the XEV 9e, both SUVs differ significantly in styling, interior layout, and powertrain configurations.

Here is a detailed comparison between the Mahindra XEV 9S and Mahindra XEV 9e.

Price Comparison
Mahindra has launched the XEV 9S at a starting price of ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to ₹29.45 lakh. This makes the entry-level XEV 9S nearly ₹1.95 lakh more affordable than the base XEV 9e, which begins at ₹21.50 lakh. Even at the top end, the XEV 9S remains about ₹1 lakh cheaper than the top variant of the XEV 9e, giving it a clear edge in value-for-money.

Exterior Differences
The biggest difference lies in the overall body style. The XEV 9e is a coupe-style electric SUV with a sporty sloping roofline, while the XEV 9S adopts a more traditional, upright SUV stance inspired by the XUV700. The XEV 9S also rides on larger wheels compared to the XEV 9e’s 18-inch alloys.
At the rear, the XEV 9S gets a wiper with washer something missing in the XEV 9e. Their taillamp designs differ too: the XEV 9e features a connected inverted-U LED strip, while the XEV 9S gets split LED taillights similar to those on the XUV700.
Their colour palettes also vary. The XEV 9S drops the Deep Forest and Tango Red shades available on the XEV 9e, but adds a brand-new Desert Myst colour option.

Interior Differences
Inside the cabin, both models share a familiar dashboard and driver-focused console, but the XEV 9S stands apart in terms of practicality and space. As India’s first all-electric three-row SUV, it accommodates up to seven passengers, unlike the five-seater XEV 9e.
Additional family-friendly features in the XEV 9S include sliding and ventilated second-row seats, a powered Boss mode, and a fully retractable panoramic sunroof. These enhancements make it more versatile for long journeys and everyday use compared to the XEV 9e’s sportier, two-row layout.

Powertrain Differences
Mahindra offers a wider range of battery options on the XEV 9S. While both SUVs come with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs, the XEV 9S also introduces a unique 70 kWh option available exclusively with the mid-spec Pack Two Above variant.
This configuration delivers 241 bhp and 380 Nm, offering a balanced blend of power and efficiency. This added flexibility gives buyers more choices based on range, performance, and budget.

Conclusion
The Mahindra XEV 9S and XEV 9e may share the same electric DNA, but they cater to very different audiences. The XEV 9e is for those who want sporty styling and a premium coupe-like experience. In contrast, the XEV 9S is built for families seeking space, comfort, and versatility without compromising on Mahindra’s Born Electric innovation. With its attractive pricing, three-row practicality, and expanded powertrain options, the XEV 9S stands out as a strong new contender in India’s expanding EV market.
